The Sundance Film Festival 2010 is once again underway, where little known film projects are presented in the hope of coming away with the big Grand Jury Prize. It many cases it is the one thing standing between an amazing small scale film from seeing the light of day, for example Precious came away with the award last year, and if it wasn’t for the London Film Festival Slumdog Millionaire would still be sitting on the shelf.
One of this year’s frontrunners for the Grand Jury is The Killer Inside Me, a Neo-noir based on the novel by Jim Thompson. What probably people were not expecting is the amount of outrage the film has caused. The film’s extreme violence (mainly towards female characters) and scenes of S&M has lead to people demanding to know why the film was allowed to be shown, and debate has already started about if the film will ever be seen by anyone outside of Sundance.
