:-D awesome. I'm watching it RIGHT NOW. Vol2 kicked ass as well. I have a 3-time rule going for me. I can't say whether or not I really didn't like a movie until the third time. I didn't even like Reservoir Dogs until the third time I saw it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Yojimbo kind of disappointed me, too. But Kurasawa just doesn't do it for me in general for some reason. Mifune is a badass, though. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Seven Samurai is much better, IMHO. Try that out. Mifune is a younger badass. Then watch The Magnificent Seven and you'll see how much was lifted from Samurai, even though its a good Western. For some reason I got more out of the supporting characters in Donnie Darko. They make the film for me. 0 Replies | Report Abuse How is it that you own 5 of the man's films but have only watched one of them? 1 Replies | Report Abuse Most of my films are blind-buys, so it takes me a while to watch them all. I'm slowly starting to watch more films and I'll be watching the rest of my Kurosawa films in the near future. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I too own 4 of Kurosawa's films, yet I've only seen Seven Samurai. They all came in one package and I haven't had time to watch all of 'em (perhaps cuz they're usually too long). So, I just gotta be in the right mood to watch this classic movie. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Watch Rashomon. 2 Replies | Report Abuse Rashomon is great. 0 Replies | Report Abuse It'll probably be the next Kurosawa film I watch. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Yojimbo 6/10? Darko 10/10? Wow... 1 Replies | Report Abuse I've already reviewed and rated Donnie Darko as 10/10 twice before in my journal, so you shouldn't be too surprised. ;) 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

What's this movie? *Slouches over and drools* 1 Replies | Report Abuse Heh, Mr. My-favorite-film-of-2001-is-Mulholland Drive. :p 0 Replies | Report Abuse My favorite movie of 2001 is Donnie Darko, but Mulholland Dr is also on my top 10 of 2001 somewhere. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Ghost World is my #1, followed very closely by Donnie Darko. Mulholland Drive is probably third. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Ack, I remember seeing this for the first time on cable around 3 a.m., fever ridden and utterly confused. I did not fare much better upon my second, healthy viewing. I'd not have rated it so high, if only because I was left with a less than satisfactory conclusion. Kinda like eating Chinese food...I'm no longer hungry, but not really sated, either. ;) 0 Replies | Report Abuse Just admit it. The lesbian sex made you rate it that high. Can't blame you, though. 1 Replies | Report Abuse *drools* I'm sorry, what were you saying? Have to admit though, it is an added bonus. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The 6th viewing is even better, although not the 5th. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I love it when you talk sarcastically to me. Rawrr. ;) 0 Replies | Report Abuse I first saw this when I was extremely tired and ended up sleeping through 90% of it. I should probably give it another chance. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The sexual overtones do elevate it past a complex mindfuck, although it certainly is that. I need to watch it again we talked about it a lot the 1st time. 0 Replies | Report Abuse BEST MOVIE EVER. I've seen this movie like 10-12 times. It's still just as good as the first time. Few movies can do that. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I'm surprised this film would hold up on repeat viewings, and I'm glad it did. It's definitely on my list of Top 20 films of all-time. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Aw yeah! #3 on my best lesbian movies list. Its a keeper! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I hated this.. maybe I sould see it again and again... until I like it. On second thought, I will never have the mental capabilities to figure this one out. 1 Replies | Report Abuse *nods to the latter* 1 Replies | Report Abuse Ouch... But correct... :( 0 Replies | Report Abuse I still don't get it. Who was after her? Why did she have her hand in her pants? Was she hiding something there? How did those two people shrink at the end of the movie? 1 Replies | Report Abuse Who was after her? - No actual person (besides the detectives looking for her [Betty/Diane] when we see she put out the "hit" on Rita/Camilla Rhodes at the end of the film, though we actually see the "hit" take place in the first scene of the film; basically, the beginning is the end); it was all symbolism of her past haunting her. Why did she have her hand in her pants? - Masturbation purposes, perhaps? ;) Was she hiding something there? - See above. How did those two people shrink 1 Replies | Report Abuse I know ;) I was just kidding around. I finally got it the second time around. 1 Replies | Report Abuse |

Ghost World? What's that.... some kind of movie with Gina Gershon in it? *runs* :) 1 Replies | Report Abuse Tee hee. You bastard! :p 0 Replies | Report Abuse I also loved the film. I thought it was very funny, excellent script, acting, ect... Also Steve Bucsemi should have gotten an Oscar nomination! 1 Replies | Report Abuse The entire film should have swept the Oscars!!! One of the greatest films ever made... One of the greatest screenplays ever written... A brilliant score... Stellar acting from Birch, Johansen, AND Buscemi (as well as everyone else in the film)... Glorious costumes... Perhaps I'm just a fanboy, though. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Agreed completely. One of my all-time faves. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I gave it a 9, but a 10 wouldn't be a stretch for me though. Nice to see your taste isn't all shit. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Awww....gee, thanks Roomy. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I loved this film! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I didn't like it as much as most people, but you can't deny how awesome Doug is. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Oh, that scene where Enid was selling her stuff was hilarious. Another funny part was the pop-corn joke. "Here ya go, covered in yellow chemical sludge". Lol. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The whole Yay! I'm an anti-conformist act gets heavy, but other than that, yeah, it can be pretty enjoyable. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Seymour and Enid are the two movie characters that I identify with the most. This is among my favorites. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I just watched this about a week ago - love it. I hope you waited for the extra Doug scene at the end of the credits. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I think Ghost World's severely overrated. You praise it because its about a meandering teenager, I condemn it for the same reason. *shrug* 0 Replies | Report Abuse How do you view the characters of Josh(the guy Rebecca and Enid like to torture) and Norman (the guy who is waiting for the bus)? I think these are the two deficiencies of the film. Josh is a minor character like Enid's father and Maxine, but he doesn't fit in the background well enough. He deserved some exposition. As for Norman, he is only a metaphor, not even a character. Just an actor playing a symbol. I think the bus ending could have been done without such obvious symbolism. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Without them, the film wouldn't have worked well as a whole. I think that if Zwigoff would have placed more emphasis on each character, it would have sent its main characters (Enid, Rebecca, and Seymour) into the realm of "meh, who cares?" Focusing too much on secondary characters is something that many films make the mistake of doing. I can't imagine having it end any other way. There have been several different interpretations of this film in general, but I highly doubt that an alternate en 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Grrrrrrrrl Power! I'll definitely be renting this movie soon. I'm glad it lived up to your expectations. :-) 0 Replies | Report Abuse I heard about this one awhile back. I saw a behind the scenes and it looked like it might be cool. Being a musician I'm sure I could relate to it on some lvl. Even if its about a girl band. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I will be sure to rent it when I see it in my videostore. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Does she play with Slash and the rest of the ex-Guns N' Roses guys on this? 1 Replies | Report Abuse Nope. She played with the ex-members of Guns N' Roses only to promote the film itself. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Hey, you're post is almost perfectly balanced. Your average film rating is 5.6 and Courtney Love's ugliness is in perfect balance with Jennifer Esposito's hotness. ZEN! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Damn, I forgot to mention J Esposito?s partial nudity in my Crash entry. Anyway, 6/10? Same rating. :) Prey for Rock & Roll plays on cable next month in my area! Woo-hoo! Still might go see Unleashed. The Man/dog related stuff aside, the action still looks super-cool. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Damn, Courtney looks bad. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Esposito needed more screentime. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Jennifer Esposito...she is hot. I'll see Crash for that. 0 Replies | Report Abuse i love you. will you be my internet girlfriend? 1 Replies | Report Abuse Buah!? Wait wait wait. Seriously, whats with all these brain dead bimbos like her, the simpson sisters, and Anna Nicole Smith? 2 Replies | Report Abuse The death of pop culture is near, I sense. 0 Replies | Report Abuse They've always have been around, but the media pays more attention to them. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I hear Paris gets killed real good. Christina Ricci = hot. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Indeed she does, but the wounding preceding her death was even more cringe-worthy. Ouchy! Christina and Vincent made such an enjoyably odd couple. For me, Grieg's Hall Of The Mountain King is forever linked to this flick. 0 Replies | Report Abuse This is one of my favorite films. It completely transcends the time it was made and is still very relevent today. Lorre was fantastic, and despite being a bit preachy, I loved the end. 0 Replies | Report Abuse nice insight Gina! i had to watch this film for class and wrote an essay on it. stop by my journal and give it a look-see. :D 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

See it! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I really like this film too, and wrote a review in my journal awhile back. Not officially film noir but it does have a lot of those qualities though doesn't it? You sound like you know a lot about the history of film. Did you study it in school? I am trying to learn a bit here and there, and borrowed a friend's textbook from her film class. 1 Replies | Report Abuse You reviewed the film very nicely, I must say. The director's cut blows. You should be aborted for believing it is better than the original. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I've never really cared for Donnie Darko. I think it's a jumbled mess. But I can see why everyone likes it. It's not a conventional movie by any means! and it's REALLY dark, lol. but I just can't get into it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse A director's cut might improve my opinion. I liked some of the imagery and supporting casts' work, but the pacing is either plodding or MIA and I was not engaged with the flick except a little at the end. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I only saw it once recently, the original, and... well I will have to see it again. I think I enjoyed it??? 0 Replies | Report Abuse Haven't seen the director's cut...but I love the orginal; 10/10. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I haven't seen the director's cut either, but I love the original. Sorry you're stressed. *hugs* 0 Replies | Report Abuse "Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees, look at these." ~ Baby Firefly :D Maybe going to see The Devil's Rejects a third time will cheer you up. I hope you feel better soon. :) The ending on the highway to "Free Bird" was so freakin' beautiful. 1 Replies | Report Abuse If I feel like going to the movies, and there's nothing else playing that I want to see, it's definitely a possibility. I know I'm going to purchase it as soon as it's released. Yeah, I feel the exact same way about the ending. It must have been the song, but upon my second viewing, I actually teared up a little at the end ("Free Bird" is my high school class song, so it has sentimental value).... 1 Replies | Report Abuse Yeah, I'm definitely buying it when it comes out dvd too. Teared up? Wow, I thought I was the only one. It sure felt weird getting all emotional over a bunch of mass-murderers... damn you, Mr. Zombie. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Wow, sound facinating. I need to check that out. Is this the first time you've ever seen 'All The Real Girls', because I gave it the same rating at first, but it's gotten to be even better on repeat viewings. It would be like a 9.5 now. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Yes, it's my first viewing, but I plan on viewing it for a second time in the near future. I can't let a post about 2001 pass without a comment - This truly is Kubrick's masterpiece, and quite possibly the greatest film ever made. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I really need to see 2001 sometime....I loved the book. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great pics! I love them both 0 Replies | Report Abuse 2001 ASO  I'm really glad you didn't complain about it's pacing. Something, people on RT do too much. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Normally, I tend to get bored very easily, but occasionally a film with a rather slow pace will keep me highly interested. It all depends on the subject matter at hand and the way the film itself is shot. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Persona is an excellent film... but I get the impression that one viewing doesn't suffice (I've only seen it once). I liked Hapiness a lot. Very funny in a dark way. Ed Wood is very good. Nice reviews. 0 Replies | Report Abuse "I myself have studied the art of Zen" When you said that, I pictured a little old chinese woman drinking tea. :) And on another note, I really need to see a few movies now! 1 Replies | Report Abuse *spits tea* ;) 0 Replies | Report Abuse I love Perfect Blue, except for the incredibly cheesy ending. 0 Replies | Report Abuse 5/10? :( 1 Replies | Report Abuse Mmmhmm. I couldn't force myself to give it a fresh rating. Me sorry. *sniffle* You know I absolutely love martial art and kung-fu films though, so be gentle. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Lee the man is a bigger hook than most of his films. Enter the Dragon is solid. I bought Hero last week so I'm looking forward to seeing it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Only 6/10 for Ed Wood? :( I gave this movie 9/10. We do agree on Hero, though. Haven't seen the other movies, but Happiness does look interesting from reading your review. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Replay value plays a large part in my ratings. So a 6, according to me, would mean that it was a good film, some flaws, but doesn't have much of a replay value. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I will pay $20 just to see Hero, I am not kidding. I don't think it is going to be playing in this small town so I might have to go up to Chicago to see it....But it will be worth it! 1 Replies | Report Abuse I do hope you get a chance to see it. Good luck. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I'm looking forward to Hero, although it probably won't open here in Salt Lake until 2006 or so. I concur with your reviews of Happiness and Perfect Blue; both are very good films. I have only seen about three anime films in my life, and Perfect Blue is one of them. Any other recommendations? Also, I would liked to hear more of your thoughts on Perfect Blue. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I too haven't seen many anime films, but of the ones I have seen, my favorites are: Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Millennium Actress, and Princess Mononoke. In Japan, "perect blue" is a fairly well-known saying, though it has several interpretations, and I found it surprising that an anime film captured the naivety, obsessive celebrity fascination, and lack of perfection in humanity so well. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks. That's invaluable input. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I did have a question. You said studied zen. What exactly is zen? I believe the idea is peace or a state of being at one with yourself? 1 Replies | Report Abuse A combination of enlightenment through meditation and learning to live in a state of peace with yourself and your surroundings. I do it to help maintain and reduce stress levels, but I've also had some sense of improvement in realization in general. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Carnival Of Souls is in the top 3 horror films ever made, IMO. I loved Hero my number 3 of 2004. Oh and nice purchases, The Cabinet Of Doctor Caligari, *oranges* 0 Replies | Report Abuse Soooo glad you loved Carnival of Souls. That film has more atmosphere than any horror film I've seen. I actually own the soundtrack on CD... 0 Replies | Report Abuse I've run into this attitude about needing Asian cultural background to see the majesty of Hero. I can understand that, but I wonder what impactful content you speak of. Outside of a political and ethical analysis, what else is there? 1 Replies | Report Abuse I think that anyone with a fundamental appreciation for Asian culture in general will almost automatically recognize the "impactful content". I'm not sure it can be something pointed out, but just the overall simplicity portrayed in many Asian films is what strikes me as a breath of fresh air amidst all the action-packed, dialogue cluttered films we see in mainstream America. 1 Replies | Report Abuse heh heh...it seems I made up a word (impactful) in response to your doing the same (impactual), but it all worked out! So, you find simplicity to be impactamundous, in other words. As far as Asian culture goes, I don't know if there was so much that another culture could not identify, when you use other films as a benchmark, but I suppose that goes to the individual. Zen belief, dedication to art, metaphors of the sword, love of country, sacrifice for ideal...is that what you mean? 1 Replies | Report Abuse I thought 2LDK was great. I got a good laugh out of it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Ditto on your Carnival of Souls snippet. Rod Serling captured some of that same eeriness in a few of his short stories. Death on the Nile is another good Agatha Cristie movie adaptation. I liked so much it inspired me to go to Egypt! 0 Replies | Report Abuse
Many have argued that this film is purely visual, but I disagree based on the fact that I myself have a fetish for asian culture and Zhang Ziyi gives me a clit-on.
Good for you. 1 Replies | Report Abuse  Heh. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I have also recently seen Carnival of Souls for the first time. It's a real gem that's for certain. 1 Replies | Report Abuse This film, upon a second viewing, could potentially be 10/10 material. 0 Replies | Report Abuse A Home at The End of The World is not playing anywhere half way close by me, so I will wait till its on DVD. They better have the Colin Farrel frontal nude scene though, or I will cry. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Sadly, they cut it out, but you do get to see plenty of Colin's stomach and one buttocks scene. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I heard it will be on the dvd. So I will be owning that most likely. :) 0 Replies | Report Abuse I really like Perfect Blue, but the way that pop music just kicks in at the end really ruins it a bit. I like the song, but they should have faded to silence for about 10-20 seconds first. It's too depressing to cram that J-pop up our arses at that moment. I also have the live-action version of Perfect Blue - Yume Nara Samete (sp?)something like that. It's a different take on the novelization that the anime was based on. It's not too bad, although some might find it slower paced. Also, I really, 0 Replies | Report Abuse Holy crap, you got cash/gift certificates out the wazoo. And is that old Zatoichi or remake Zatoichi? I've got the old one but haven't seen it, I've been meaning too. 1 Replies | Report Abuse It's the remake. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I love Fucking Amal (Show Me Love). I NEED them to release Lilja 4-Ever now!! 1 Replies | Report Abuse *frantically scribbles down Lilja 4-Ever* 1 Replies | Report Abuse it's Moodysson's best I had to download it, and watch it in Russian with Swedish subtitles, but it was still my favorite film of 2003. 1 Replies | Report Abuse You rated Jacob's Ladder 4/10 and said you wanted to see Lilja 4-Ever? Yeah, if you rented Infernal Affairs, im sure the awful cover could through someone off. 1 Replies | Report Abuse It was a Christmas present. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Raising Arizona's one of my favorite films from the 80s. And Annie Hall from the 70s. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Annie Hall is my favorite film EVER! I really love the quote you used for the tittle ;-) 0 Replies | Report Abuse Wow, mere days after writing my slobbering review of Infernal Affairs, you give it a 4. I'm hurt for some reason. 1 Replies | Report Abuse You'll probably be hurt once again with my Million Dollar Baby rating [if and when I actually find time to write a review]. Initially I had thoughts of giving it borderline rotten and now it's barely fresh. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Well, if you give Annie Hall a 9, it's obvious that we have vastly different tastes in movies. 1 Replies | Report Abuse |

Well just in case you didn't know, Army of Darkness is Evil Dead 3. And Bubba Ho-Tep ruled.

Thank you Captain Obvious. *edits entry* Bubba Ho-Tep was pure "meh" material aside from Campbell's performance.

Bubba... is more difficult to enjoy than the Evil Dead movies. I liked the documentary that included Bruce on the DVD as much as anything else. Singin' in the Rain is one of a select few musicals in my collection. Its a Happy movie!

Ok, first, Angelina Jolie is so hot that rating Taking Lives 1/10 is just wrong. And Bubba Ho-Tep kicks ass, you silly gimp.

West Side Story is my favorite musical. But it?s ok, you?re entitled to deviate from my opinion. For now. And I though Buppa Ho-Tep was entertaining but nothing special as well.

So Taking Lives wasn't that great, but a 1/10?! Come on! I watched it last night. It wasn't that bad. Your mini review of Bubba Hotep was dead on, but I gave it 6/10 'cause Bruce's performance deserves a tomato!

I thought I was actually being highly generous with the half star (Angelina saved it from a zero star rating). Upon reading your review for it, I agree, you need to watch a lot more....and I mean a significant amount more....thrillers because you obviously are easily entertained by mainstream cliché "thrillers" that basically fall into the category of "you've seen one, you've seen them all". ;)

If you liked "Singin' in the Rain," you should definitely check out Vincente Minnelli's "The Pirate." As an actor, I don't think Gene Kelly's ever been better.

I've heard that besides great onscreen chemistry, the film isn't anything special.

I didn't think Taking Lives was that bad, I first gave it a 6, but realized there is too much wrong and gave it a 5. What did it for me was numerous plotholes and implausabilities made it to the point of just being a false world. However, I don't get your complaints on the vainity. I remember Hawke taking his shirt off maybe once at best...maybe that was the extended cut?

No, it was the regular version. But still, ugh. Okay, Angelina was much worse when it came to the vanity....*suddenly loses train of thought*....I just thought it was incredibly irritating.

The problem is I can't watch too many thrillers because I'm easily frightened. When Angelina went down in that basement I kept telling myself, "It's just a movie. It's just a movie."
