With less than 20 to 15 % of Silent films that survive to this day and age Film Presvervation is all the more important. And it is important for us film buffs to view the remaining silent greats. At the time there was a great hatred of nonconformity, especially in hair or dress. It was an anti establishment, or so called counter-culture movement represented by Hopper and Fonda that could enrage some townsfolk in the film. Hence the violent ending.
