Excellent insight for I didn't see the parallel of "Sunset..." it does however mock the silent era in a fun kind of way b/c Kelly's character may have been inspired by the Rudolph Valentino character who also was a stunt man before becoming a star. Oh, I love reading about your perspectives on films, I look forward reading more! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks very much David, such a brilliant film. 0 Replies | Report Abuse yeah, FUN was all about the world back then in these films. You can see it in so many ones that starred these icon actors. If you want to see musicals that uplift the soul, just latch on to these of the time. Anchors Away was another. And on and on and on. Golden good feel films. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Fun, enjoyable story, nice dancing... excellent review... thumbs up! 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Excellent review my friend... I agree with you on everything here! Thumbs up! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks panta! appreciate the read! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Can't say it's the best film ever either. Good review man. It has nothing on 2001, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, Seventh Seal, etc, etc. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks for the read man. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The BEST film EVER made is crazy to give to any film. I myself consider Kane to be not all that great at all. Go to Lawrence of Arabia, Gone with the Wind or 2001 a Space Odysee for that kind of talk. Citizen Kane was and is a very good film and that is all. Besides, how about my Casablanca, that isn't crap and should be far above Kane stuff. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Exactly Rick, it's just too ambiguous. Thanks for the contribution. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I consider this the greatest film ever made, alongside 2001: A Space Odyssey and Andrei Rublev. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I agree with "2001: A Space Odyssey" being the greatest. I have still not witnessed an entity that surpasses its brilliance. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Such an amazing review! I loved it, and consider it the greatest film by the time it was made. I also believe "2001" is the best of all time, but for original talkies, this was quite innovating. 0 Replies | Report Abuse possibly the best black-and-white talky alongside "Dr. Strangelove". 0 Replies | Report Abuse I agree Kane himself makes the movie great. He's truly one of the most interesting of all movie characters. You pretty much cover everything in detail that truly does to this film justice considering it status. Well done! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks for the comment sand read man. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I had to watch this one twice to fully appreciate it. My review admits to it. Now for something completely different for DeNiro, try seeing him in New York, New York. 1 Replies | Report Abuse such a brilliant movie that i view annually. I have seen 'new york, new york", not one of my favorite de niro films, nevertheless it still displays his brilliance in versatility. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I consider it Martin Scorsese's best film next to Goodfellas. 1 Replies | Report Abuse same, and raging bull, but i consider taxi driver the best. 0 Replies | Report Abuse "Scorsese, who establishes the camera as a window into Travis subconscious" awesome description and totally agree about alienation for he's totally oblivious about Americas popular past times particularly when Travis was taking Betsy to a porno film just because to him it's only a movie that is no different than say Casablanca. Excellent read and interesting spin! 1 Replies | Report Abuse the porno theater scene brilliantly highlighted his social inability, like who takes their date to a porno ahaha. Once again, thanks for the read dave. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review! I hummed Hermann's score for days after seeing this incredible work of art. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Excellent review. Truly excellent review. I'm one of the guilty ones who thought it was a little overrated, but I understand it's important to focus on the time the film was made to appreciate it. I'll definitely have to see it again. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks man. It's simply one of those movies that connects with some, and doesn't with others - but you should definitely re-watch it! 0 Replies | Report Abuse One of the rare movies where 100% is not too much! Cheers, mate! Thumbs up! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Excellent review! 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Overacting was somehow suitable as a replacement for sound and words... Nice review! Thumbs up! 1 Replies | Report Abuse exactly, they needed to convey the emotion somehow. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review; you nailed everything great about this film. And nice job on unearthing the symbolism. 1 Replies | Report Abuse thanks man, your reviews are excellent. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Yours too! Keep it up :) 0 Replies | Report Abuse You are right Silent filmmaking is a long lost art form. sadly what is also lost to the ages is F.W Murnau's next film after this Oscar winning classic, FOUR DEVILS [1928]. With less than 20 to 15 % of Silent films that survive to this day and age Film Presvervation is all the more important. And it is important for us film buffs to view the remaining silent greats. Brilliant review Jack daddy 1 Replies | Report Abuse so important. It's disappointing that these films are so hard to obtain. Thanks peter h. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Most RT folks give high marks for this film. While I notice you prefer this genre of films, go crazy sometime and watch a historical narrative.. a "little" film called Lawrence of Arabia. Or Amadeus for that matter. Would be curious to get your take on either one. 1 Replies | Report Abuse i will admit my dirty laundry, i still have not seen 'lawrence of arabia', just waiting for it's blu ray release in november :) 1 Replies | Report Abuse Well, don't hold back. If its a bore, tell me so. Its a long one to be sure. Set in WWI desert sands and a true story. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review and totally agree! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks dave! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review! I really enjoyed this Batman's trilogy by Nolan and it will be very hard to top it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Very nicely written review! I also just adored this film for its ambitious in dauntingly exploring the new dimensions and layers that were begged of the story and its characters. So glad that you enjoyed that aspect too! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks for the read Duds. Such a brilliant film. 0 Replies | Report Abuse The smartest and most ontological superhero film, and by far the best of that genre. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review! I love that The Dark Knight explores ideas and themes surrounding Batman and his universe while still developing interesting, unforgettable characters as well. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Hitchcock films are fantastic to rewatch. 0 Replies | Report Abuse No thriller of the 80's or the 90's or any of today's made my jaw dropped as this one did. 1 Replies | Report Abuse so true, hitchcock was truly the master of suspense. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Crazy violent and still adorable! Excellent review! Thumbs up, mate! 1 Replies | Report Abuse such a great movie, thank you. 0 Replies | Report Abuse This was indeed a stunner to see first run in the theatre! Nothing else like it before and maybe since, though I have not kept up with similar films. I liked the soundtrack so much I ran out an bought it. The film left no doubt that the ordeal Alex went through to 'save' him was as demented as the character he portrayed. Get the soundtrack and play it real loud sometime. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I love this film, I can watch it over and over again and never get tired of its world and characters. 1 Replies | Report Abuse yes clockwork is brilliant, which, once again, is another brilliant interpretation of the present from 1973, in not not necessarily the urban landscape and technology, but rather the youthful nature and governments. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review. Certainly my everlasting favorite film along with 2001. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Hah. Great review! I still haven't seen this... my bad. I'll have to get into it someday. The only gay comedy I've seen so far was "The Kids Are All Right" and it was excellent. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review and I liked it when I first saw it many years ago but not as effective in repeated viewings! 0 Replies | Report Abuse I would second the emotion, fun to see the first time and not so much the second. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Great review and loved this film! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Love love love love LOVED this!! :) I never knew just how incredible Jimmy could act until this showed me. Though I think Capra got quite saccharine and optimistic by time of the film's conclusion, excellent review my friend. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Over the top. Purely great expectations that a guy could do such things. It was good to see our "hero". But really, fantasy in today's cut throat world. 0 Replies | Report Abuse It's unrealistic even by standards of its day, but it's message is the same today as it was then. There are people in our Congress that I'd like to beat into submission from their attitudes toward the people they represent, so seeing the good guy win once in a while is nice. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I liked this film but not quite as much as you though because I thought the message was already made and still be effective if the movie overall was ended sooner but still very an interesting perspective though! 0 Replies | Report Abuse The Apartment is all about Jack Lemmon and if you don't care for Lemmon it can be tedious. This clearly is a romantic comedy, not as RT indicates a drama. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Your descriptive writing and brief analyses are so good. Great review. 1 Replies | Report Abuse thanks duds, appreciate the read. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Completely agreed; this idiosyncratic gem was such a breath of fresh air, even given its flaws, but, still, the tension and less-is-more approach were absolutely magnificent. I agree with most of your critique. On the really really big screen, not the crap people see today, this one was awesome. I was so impressed I went out and bought the soundtrack. For me, pretty close to being a 100% if not indeed a 100%. But then, I do not do technicalities. Great effort in the review. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks very much Monsieur, was a fun film to review! 0 Replies | Report Abuse Great review but for some reason I can't into Woody Allen films in general since his outside exterior is not the most appealing, yet he's able to be with girls who're more attractive than he is! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Haha. I know exactly what you mean and how it does seem obtuse. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Allen is and was a loser in real life when it came to women. Were it not for his real life celebrity opening doors to Keaton and others, he couldn't attract anyone... he would be the first to admit that I am sure. He, at least, was self deprecating and honest enough to realize that. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Although I think "Annie Hall" is a bit better, this is one of my all-time 1970s faves. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Excellent review! I have heard this was a great "road movie" and that it Dennis Hopper's most prestigious piece of work. I've just watched Speed with him as an actor, but I didn't know he also directed Easy Rider. I will definitely check it out! 1 Replies | Report Abuse It's so brilliant bruno! Thanks for the read. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Having seen this one first run ever in a theatre setting on a really really huge screen... well it was great. At the time there was a great hatred of nonconformity, especially in hair or dress. It was an anti establishment, or so called counter-culture movement represented by Hopper and Fonda that could enrage some townsfolk in the film. Hence the violent ending. Classic soundtrack Born to be Wild theme song by Steppenwolf was so appropriate in the begining. 0 Replies | Report Abuse This was n amzing movie... and your review is excellent! Kubricks style is easily seen in this film. You can talk about this film for days and not cover everything. It's slow but brilliant in capturing the visual and spiritual essence of the Clarke's story.

This is one of those era type films that comes along to mark the occasion. Like Gone with the Wind, Star Wars (the first), and the like, this was at the top of its genre. You can read my review of it but watching it first release in the theatre was to mature a film for me at the time. It holds up real well though doesn't it?

My first impression was not the greatest at the time when it was first released. Of course, the films put out at the time were not near the sophistication as 2001, so it was a tough one to watch due to the pacing and beginning/ending.
