2009 has been a somewhat poor year for movies. The summer didn't have near as many blockbusters as last year, and this year's "Oscar-bait" films aren't quite as critically acclaimed as previous years. However, this year has produced what I think still may be my all-time favorite film, as well as some of the funniest films ever. 2009 has also produced a film so visually orgasmic that I am willing to pay $15 to see it again. There's also been a handful of movies that upon a first viewing I thought were disappointing and overrated, but that I went back to a second time and actually really enjoyed. Even though there are still a lot of films I need to see to make a final decision (my final list probably won't be written until April or May of next year), this is my list of the ten best films of 2009.

I like your list. Major props for 1,3,5,6 and 8. I'm not a big fan of 2 and 7 though. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I like your list. Major props for 1,3,5,6 and 8. But there are still enough great films, my favorite being "Star Trek".Great list. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I agree, this year isn't as fantastic as 2008. In fact, this year felt slow. "Star Trek" belongs on anyone's Top 10 (including you, Mr. Ebert), and it should serve as an example for how big-budget movies should be written and made. This year was absolutely terrible with many disappointing films and the Oscar season only showed how awful it really was (I wouldn't have had a worst-of-the-year list without it). 0 Replies | Report Abuse I enjoyed 70% of these films, and although it wasn't considered for my own list, I love seeing "I Love You, Man" get some, um, love.
