Well for one the year this was made was 1990. Secondly this film was just laughable at most. The special effects were shotty, even for the time. The story made Captain America look like a pansy and the quality was that of the 70's Spider-Man TV series.
I mean even the unreleased Fantastic Four film had better....EVERYTHING. The make up effects on the Red Skull in the beginning of the film is quite good though and the costume for Captain America is faithful enough, but with the budget of a TV pilot in 1990 and needing the special effects and budget of a big budget superhero film, even in 1990 this film was meant to bomb.
I haven't seen this film in years and recently saw the Nostalgia Critic review of this and it all just came flooding back and not in a good.
Ronny Cox(Total Recall, Robocop)and Ned Beatty(Superman, Superman II)are the big names in this one and it really makes me wonder how the hell they were ever convinced to this film?
The worse part about this film is that Marc Sallinger(I think that's his name)who plays the title character. Does a horrible job. He portrays what is supposed to be one of comics best superhero ever as a thieving pansy.
I mean he does nothing but get his ass kicked. The fights he does win he needs help to get the upper hand. He carjacks people as well, I mean has Captain America ever carjacked anyone in the comics?
Hopefully when this new film comes out, even with Disney in control I hope the film is done in a matter that portrays him in the same light or dark that The Dark Knight and Iron Man has shown them.
