Wall-E is a very bold experiment that takes a very dark and depressing future and introduces a love story featuring robots with limited gestures and a heavy dose of slapstick humor. The fact that Andrew Stanton was able to pull it off is a reason for awarding this movie five stars. First, the characters are well drawn: Wall-E is a humble working-class robot from the near future whereas EVE is a top of the line machine from the distant future. That alone should make your head explode, but the storytelling is so great, that they were able to explain this and much more in a relatively short movie. The special effects are top-notch. And to top it off, sound-effect royalty Ben Burtt (of Star Wars fame) was chosen to create the sound for many of the characters. Gave it 4-stars because the humans in the movie are a visual and story-wise letdown compared to the magnificence of the robots (e.g. M-O). Watch through the credits for a small surprise.
