I thought I would put as my first journal entry, my top ten favorite movies. These are my favorite movies, ones that have touched me or entertained me the most. They are not necessarily the best movies of all time but definetly my favorites. So, without further ado my top ten are:
The Truman Show- This movie is amazing. The way it forshadowed reality TV before there was reality TV. Jim Carrey's uncanny performance, and Peter Weir's light hearted, but serious direction. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy- I know this is cheating it is three movies not one. However, you can not seperate these movies. They are one continuos epic film. There also the most enjoyable epic film I have ever seen. Peter Jackson was able to do amazing things with these films. He also stayed true to the books, while adding his own touch. The finished result is an amazing trilogy that will always be remembered as one of the greatest films ever made. The Dark Knight- I know this just came out and it is already in my top ten. However this movie was so amazing I just had to make room for it. I am deployed to Afghanistan at this moment, but I was able to go home on mid tour leave and see this in July. This movie was a great crime drama with outstanding performances, edge of our seat thrills, amazing stunts, spectaclar special effects, and has the greatest on screen villian of all time. Wes Craven's New Nightmare- I love horror films, and Wes Craven is one of my favorite horror film directors. Sure he has made some bombs (Cursed anyone), but he has also made some of the most memorable horror films of all time. From Last House on the Left to Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream he has left his mark on horror. New Nightmare is great because it really played on the movie inside a movie theme (like Scream) and turned Freddy into a scary villian again after all the silly sequals. Moulin Rouge- Musicals liked by a military man is very unusual. However I grew up in my grandparents home and they loved the old musicals (West Side Story, The Sound of Music, South Pacific etc.) Moulin Rouge brought musicals back into the mainstream after about two decades of nothing. It was amazing and fresh, as well as unique. It paved the way for our modern musicals such as Chicago, Hairspray, and Mama Mia!. It's A Wonderful Life- One of the greatest films of all time. I can't go through the holiday season without seeing this film of love, and the difference that one man can make. Jurrassic Park- The first film I ever saw in theaters. It's special effects still dazzle today, and the story is just as fun to view time and time again. Edward Scissorhands- A gothic film delight, and visual masterpiece. Plus the modern day frankenstien's monster story, has just as much heart as the original. Toy Story- I love all of Pixar's films and it is hard to choose one as the best. So I just went with thier first, which made a whole new world for animated films and started Pixar's continued storytelling dominence in the computer generated world. Hero- I used to hate going to foreign films. Being a lazy american, I just get annoyed at having to read the movie I am watching. However, Hero changed all that for me. I visual dream and fantastic coreography, put in a story you can't stop watching. I even forgot that I was reading the subtitles it sucked me into it's world so completely. |
