i have seen THE WOMEN, RIGHTEOUS KILL and BURN AFTER READING all at the Toronto Film Festival
The Women was a very sloppy made film, which didn't surprise me at all seeing that it was Diane English's film feature, she choose a tough one to make... her remake was dreadful and her lack of experience behind the camera showed, the crowd was very disapointed in how bad this film was seeing it all female ensemble cast (Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Anette Bening, Debra Messing , Jada Pinkett Smith, and lots more) it had trouble getting made, and it should have never been made, it should attract women to go see it, but besides a 11 mil. opening weekend, don't expect it to do too much.
Righteous Kill is a very bad movie, which at all did not disapoint, i knew what i was in tune for from terrible director Jon Avnet, you can't expect a good movie from him. Why Al Pacino works with him i do not know, Al attracted Bobby to the project despite it being a piece of crap...it is worse than 88 Minutes and that itself was pretty terrible. Jon Avnet's work is straight to dvd quality and all though i extremly respect Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, this was a bad choice on their part, horendous script and even worse direction, this was a disaster from the start when Jon Avnet's name was attachted to it.
Burn After Reading was one of the best crime capers i have seen this year. Don't even get me started with the terrible "crime comedy" Pineapple Express, this is the first great Crime movie i have seen in 2008, Brad Pitt is very good in his comedic role as a dimwitted gym trainer, think a lighter version of Tyler Durden's sense of humor, that is what you get in this light movie, Geroge Clooney and Tilda Swinton are phenomal as forbidden lovers, Tilda was great in Micheal Clayton, in which she snatched a best supporting actress oscar at the 2007 Academy Awards which got owned by No Country For Old Men, the two genius's behind that thriller was Ethan and Joel Coen who bring you this comeback in "Burn After Reading" despite being light on plot or happeings, this film is very enjoyable and the cast is sure to delight, go see it, it deserves to be watched and acclaimed, especially compared to the other two dissapointing and dreadful features released with this solid crime caper
