Super 8 doesn't really have too much going on for it. The story seems like something I have already seen and doesn't engage you all to much. But of course, the movie does have its moments where it will draw your attention for a couple of minutes. The alien creature was unoriginal, the sounds it made was unoriginal, the design was basic, and it seemed as if Abram's rushed the creation process. The audio was obnoxiously loud and they try really hard to give you a good little jump.
On the other hand, the visuals were nice to watch and the smooth, glossy type filter was very appropriate for that kind of period film. The acting by the kids was also decent enough, Fanning seemed to shine more than the others, even most of the adult actors.
Overall, check this one out in theatres if you haven't gone in a while and need to watch something that is entertaining. It has cheap shots of emotion and the military is portrayed in the obvious, "we will do anything we want and stay out of our way because we have a big secret we won't tell you about even though it is killing everyone," way, but it was a decent movie.
