Having my expectations set on low after the reviews were not very good my expectations were met. First off I rate this movie a 5.5/10. I will rate the good and bad and end with my final thoughts:
CGI was very well done especially with a surprise guest at the end of the film which i wont say who to spoil it. Yelchin was good as the scrappy teenage Kyle Reese. Same Worthington is sensational and is worth seeing for him alone. Unfortunately he is almost the only reason to really go see it.
Christian Bale's performance isnt weak it is downright BAD. Maybe it was miscasting but he should not of been cast as John Connor. He is moody and angry pretty much the entire film. If he is the inspiration of so many people as is portrayed in the movie it would of been better if he had a more humanized personality. Where this movie ultimately failed is to distinguish the robots from machines which it didnt. Only at the very end when Bale defies command is this shown at all. THIS should of been the focal point.
McG Seriously does not know how to direct people in movies. I cared nothing for any of the characters escpecially Bale which i hold McG soley responsible for. Even a movie with an average plot can still be a good movie if character development is decent. If it wasnt for worthingtin this would be worse than judgemnet day. McG should not be allowed to make any more terminator movies.
Overall this movie is disappointing because it could of been so much better, like why not focus on connor butting heads more with command because they are no better than the machines in their thinking and tone down on his angry mood. Also some of the action scenes felt like they were slapped in there. I also think a better first movie would of been how the resistance was formed but thats not really a knock on this movie just my own opinion.
I guess this would of been an ok entry for the die hard terminator fans but not really much else to the rest of us although i do know the story fairly well but wouldnt consider myself a die hard by any stretch
