Before Sunset is the amazing sequel to the excellent Before Sunrise and it must be said at this point that you should definitely watch Before Sunrise first - as in NOW!
This film takes place in real time enhancing the urgency and realism of the situation of 2 young lovers reuniting. The dialogue remains refreshing and real as do the characters. What is truly striking is the changes in the two protagonists - age and experience shaping who they've become and their attitudes towards love.
While the movie is fantastic throughout, it is really only in the last 30 or so minutes that this movie hits home and the sense of regret, sadness and opportunities missed reverberates within us all as does the desperate hope that love still exists. This provides one of the most intimate experiences on film.
The two films remain to this day probably the best romantic movies ever made and show both the uplifting ability of young love as well as the bitter-sweet aftermath for as Celine says, 'Memory is a wonderful thing if you don't have to deal with the past'. And who can really let go of (true) love not explored?
