'A virus has spread across the earth, turning its inhabitants into vampires. With their blood supply dwindling, the vampires must find a way to sustain their source of food.'
The premise behind 'Daybreakers' intrigued me beyond belief. It was such an interesting take on a stale genre and I had hopes of this being the vampire match to sci-fi greats such as Blade Runner and Gattaca.
And for most of the film it was up there. The casting was spot-on and their acting was solid. The material they had to work with was intelligent and thought provoking. In addition the world created is a familiar one and all these factors help lend realism and plausibility to the movie.
However, 'Daybreakers' failed to maintain the high standards throughout and descended into standard gory action. This leaves the film feeling somewhat disjointed and the viewer let down (at least I was).
While entertaining, I can't help thinking about what might have been and sorely hope for a movie(s) which does the premise justice.
