(2002) Russian Ark
(In Russian with English subtitles)
HISTORICAL SCIENCE-FICTION DRAMA
Filmed like a "First person shooter" video game or in the movie sense like the beginning of 1947 "Dark Passage" when viewers don't know what the protagonist looks like until after his bandages are unwrapped and he happens to be the Humphrey Bogart character. In this scenario, it's whatever the camera sees is what the audience sees as well besides listening about his point of view. As he's walking through several art exhibit corridors, rooms and hallways, through vintage rooms. As he's gliding through the "ST Petersburg Museum" it appears that no one else can see him except the person he calls the "European" for although he can speak the Russian language he is not really from Russia. Filmed on one big long take as we wander through to see actors and actual people such as Catherine and Peter the Great. Some critics interpreting this film as a time lapse, I look at it as an oblivious spirit who has lost his way.
