That's a fair review. The movie is good, but it's more the kind i'd advise to my sister or my mom. Good review!
on 5/10/10 at 10:39 AM
Thanks! And yes, exactly, most women I know like it very much, and I recommended it to my mom.

Good movie but I would agree with your comments. Good review...
on 5/10/10 at 10:09 AM
Excellent, excellent review, friend. I have not seen this film, but I get a definite sense of what kind of film it is from your review. Great work!
on 5/10/10 at 10:42 AM
Thank you! This film is obviously not a must-see, so unless you got nothing better to do don't waste your time...

Thanks for the suggestion!

great review Mr. Gitts. I agree with you about the length, cinematography. I have recently got its bluray release and I hope it makes justice to the nice cinematography.
Thanks! :) I watched it on my ***"@//?* laptop and still enjoyed the beauty of the cinematography, with a blue-ray it should def be nice for you...if you're very patient.

I wouldn't give a film a 60% just for stunning visuals and a good score. although, I guess you liked Streep and Redford.
on 5/10/10 at 10:36 AM
Somehow I couldn't be lead to give this film a rotten rating...I almost gave it 50% though, but when you think about the good acting, even with the obvious shit pace and story, it's not that rotten.
on 5/10/10 at 10:40 AM
I dunno. Streep and Redford seemed to have one facial expression the entire movie. Just because someone is consistently good, it doesn't mean that everything they do is good.
on 5/10/10 at 11:15 AM
Yeah, you have a point. It certainly isn't their best work here, but still they were believable in their roles and had some kind of chemistry.
on 5/10/10 at 10:42 AM
Nice review even though I haven't seen the movie.
on 5/10/10 at 10:56 AM
Thanks! No need to see it btw...
on 5/10/10 at 10:52 AM
Nice review, long time since I saw it but I agree with you all the way.
Thanks for the comment :)

I liked how this film conveyed beauty and real places without that over-used CG stuff used today. Great review!
on 5/10/10 at 12:47 PM
Thanks. Indeed that was the strong point of this film.

Too bad it'll be a while before movies like this emerge again
on 5/10/10 at 03:06 PM
In recent years there aren't many movies with no CGI and the use of just a camera to show us the beauty of the world, but one I can think of is There Will Be Blood.
on 5/10/10 at 05:59 PM
That's the sad truth. There Will Be Blood though didn't have CGI, you're right. I hope more movies like that will be made in the future.

Got to admit costume dramas about white colonialists in Africa or Asia or South America or whatever aren't my thing, this sounds like it's a bit style over substance aswell. Great review though.
on 5/10/10 at 12:48 PM
They're not really mine either, or it has to be done in a very compelling and original way, which wasn't really the case here. But, yes, it had some style and at least tried to be moving. Thanks :)

I never saw it, and i don't dig the slow paced love storys.Excellent review, man!
on 5/10/10 at 12:49 PM
Thanks! Then you should definetly stay away from this one...

Good review.Yes it might been better if it had been shortened, and with a tighter script.Perhaps it was an attempt to incorporate to much from Karen Blixens book. On the other hand I felt like the pace of the movie was quite realistic. Such things as falling in love doesn't necessarily happen over night. I think it captured the gradual process of infatuation that slowly turns to love, while at the same time portraying her sometimes busy, but just as often boring and uneventful life.
on 5/12/10 at 03:00 AM
Yeah obviously if you look at it this way it's more realistic, but still the director could have given it a faster pace, there are movies of that kind like Doctor Zhivago or Brief Encounter, or even Gone with the Wind that portray the same but much less boringly. Thanks for the comment :)
on 5/10/10 at 04:43 PM
I'll probably skip this one. Nice review.
on 5/12/10 at 03:01 AM
Yeah it's missable. Thanks :)
on 5/10/10 at 05:03 PM
Seems interesting good review.
on 5/10/10 at 05:32 PM
Very Nice review Mr. Gitts, this one doesn't interest me.
on 5/10/10 at 10:24 PM
Very nice review!
on 5/11/10 at 05:11 AM
Interesting review. Not sure I'll give it the time of the day. My main problem with a lot of lengthy films is without a doubt bad pacing. Man that just annoys me!
on 5/12/10 at 03:02 AM
Yeah so better stay away from this one then, definetly one of the slowest paced movies I've seen. Interesting to some, but to others just plain boring.
on 5/11/10 at 09:26 AM
cool review, ill put it on my list

Yeah, just okay. Thanks...

I felt the same way. It is absolutely gorgeous and I love Streep and Redford but booorrriiing
;) Your sentence sums it up.
on 5/13/10 at 01:25 PM
Sometimes I can make a point without babbling.
on 5/13/10 at 01:59 PM
Wish I could do that too...
on 5/12/10 at 01:53 PM
Nice review Mr Gitts... Saw this a long time ago and all I can remember, apart from the stars is the cinematography, looks like the plot passed me by!
on 5/12/10 at 02:34 PM
Thanks :) All I remember was, also, mostly just the cinematography, the story is really left aside for other things here.
