Predictable yet far better than expected rom com. With our cinemas regularly being filled up with romantic comedies; it's easy just to brush them all off as being generic and lacking in creativity. However sometimes they're useful as a feel good movie, especially on an orange Wednesday cinema night; which for me is the best night to see such films, unless you've gotten the film from the bargain bin at the local DVD shop.
I found the party host who could barely move has face to be particularly funny as was the brief jump back in time to the late 80s/early 90s for Sandler's aborted wedding. Aniston's rivalry with her 'frienemy' Develin (Nicole Kidman) was also entertaining. I find Sandler more likable here than in some of his earlier movies an Jennifer Aniston puts in a good shift too. Acting wise it is the children who add that little bit extra to the film.
The end was predictable but it is a romantic comedy after all, so what did we expect? It was a little hard to believe Sandler had stuck with his wedding ring plan for so many years. Overall it is funny film and a slight cut above the average rom com, the scenery in the film was a nice escape from the rotten Scottish winter I have to see every day in reality right now. Also when I compare the film to 'The Dilemma' (2011) it comes off better in most departments. If you're in the mood for some light hearted albeit mindless entertainment then look no further.
