The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a perfect example of a movie that is well made, but not neccessarily good. When you hear people laud the acting in this film, they are by and large correct. It's a tribute to the actors that I don't think even less of this movie which in my opinion, dies completely due to editing.
The concept of the movie is cool, and while a lot of that is due to F. Scott Fitzgerald, the screenwriters still had to make the decision to examine the dramatic elements inherent in the theme, where as the original story was more of a joke. The shots are beautiful, the effects are cool....I can understand why so many people do like this film. But it averages out to something like ten minutes per page of the original story.....it's the chronicle of Ben Button's entire life, and it feels like it. To hear the writer talk about it, he had quite a bit more material that got left behind as well...I can only imagine what that film would have been like.
I can't with a clear conscience say that I hate this movie-too many people worked hard to make it, and it's got it's moments-but I can't recommend you watch it either.
