The thing that makes The Evil dead as good as it is, is how corny it is. Director Sam Raimi did not know what he was getting himself into when he decided to make this movie. The movie is a good length, and I for one know how hard the actors and crew had to work to get it made, and all of the hazards involved in the process. Evil dead was ahead of its time for 1979, and then in its release in 1981. It has a solid story, eye popping gore, and endless scenes where creatures jump out at you. It is incredible to see all of the horrifying things Sam Raimi was able to do in an abandonded cabin in the mountains. And do not get me started on the tree rape scene! I still do not know how they did that! But for being a low budget, independant film, Evil Dead is a must see; and it definitely stands out from the rest of the movies in the horror genre.
