Sensing something Kaufman-esque in Armond White's reviews.
There is a subtle cynicism in his fresh reviews of Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe which seems to insult the target audiences without them taking notice. Seems to me that he gave both "fresh" ratings for, if nothing else, wildly succeeding at becoming what they were intended to be: highly profitable fanboy pornography.
His review of Up seems more of a critique of Pixar than the movie itself. I agree with Armond that storylines of Pixar movies follow a rigid template, effectively making the next film a dressed-up sibling of the preceding one. Pixar has found a niche in cinema and will continue to produce more one-off clones as long as the public remains enamoured and willing to pay admission. However, is it Armond White's duty as a film critic to inform us of Pixar's capitalist ambitions by branding this movie "rotten"? C'mon Armond, we're talking about children, here! You can't expect much more cultural and moral profundity out of children's movies than what has already been incorporated into the Pixar cinema template. Remembering the target audience is key to rating this film........wait a minute........
Never mind, I was wrong. Armond White is a troll.
