    Remakes

    Posted on 07/15/09 03:07 AM | Last edited on 07/15/09 03:07 AM

    Ahoy hoy

Remakes, remakes, remakes. Hollywood can't get enough of them at the moment and so far we've been used to remakes of older films. Recently I was flicking through the Australian edition of Empire Magazine and theirs a little bit they do every month where they pose a question to the writing staff . The question this month was 'And the movie we'd like remade?' Most of the answers were older movies accept for one...Terminator Salvation. Perfect answer considering how dissapointing that movie was. How cool would it be if by some miracle another director and cast could take a stab at the material and remake the film a couple of years after it's first release.

What recent movies would you like to see remade?

I'm thinking they have to fall in the last 5 years (max 10 if you want to get broad). I've been thinking about this one and in no particular order...

    1. Terminator Salvation
    2. Any of the Pirates of the Caribean sequels
    3. I Am Legend
    4. Any of the Star Wars prequels
    5. X-Men Origins Wolverine
    6. X-Men: The Last Stand
    7. Spiderman 3
    8. Daredevil
    9. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
    10. Superman Returns

I know a lot of the movies are similar but I'm a big action/adventure fan and was really hyped to see those movies and was dissapointed. Keep in mind that if the movies are remade it will be a whole new take on the basic idea of the movie, that means new script, director, actors etc. Now you've seen my list i'd love to hear from you. What recent movies would you like to see remade?

Looking forward to hearing from you

Nobody looks cool holding a wand

    Posted on 07/07/09 02:09 AM | Last edited on 07/07/09 02:09 AM

    Ahoy hoy,

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is on our doorstep and theirs a lot of hype behind it. The funny thing about hype is its ability to erase your memory. You seem to forget how the last couple of Harry Potter movies decended into a bore fest. Harry Potter fans seem to be the most forgiving audience in cinema history because no matter how bad the movies turn out, they'll still line up around the block for the next one in the hope it will be better and 'darker'. Saying a movie should be 'darker' means you're in denial. Instead of saying 'They should make the movies darker' you should say 'they really should really stop making these movies suck so much.'

The one thing that will always let the Harry Potter movies down is simple; nobody looks cool holding a wand. Check out all the character posters for Half Blood Prince, every character has this 'steel blue' look on their face trying to look all tough, but when your holding a wand in your hand it looks like your taking a game of fetch with your dog a little too seriously. Even a tough guy like Bruce Willis could be reduced to pansy status by putting a wand in his hand.

I really hope Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince delievers the goods because the fans deserve it. They've kept the box office topped up despite being let down several times. Here's hoping for more 'Prisioner of Azkaban' and less 'Order of the Phoenix'.

    Summer Blockbusters, so far so....crappy

    Posted on 06/30/09 03:29 AM | Last edited on 06/30/09 03:29 AM

    Ahoy hoy,

My very first blog on rotten tomatoes, i'm so nervous, I hope I don't smell anything wrong...dammit!

In Australia at the moment we're smack bang right in the middle of Winter which means it's Summetime in the states, hello blockbusters!

All over the world we've seen the marketing genuis that is 'Bruno' which comes out in Australia next week. So far most of the reviews i've read say it's pretty good which is strange, a good summer blockbuster in 2009? Is it just me or have we been served up some shockers this year. Think to yourself, what is the best summer movie you've seen so far. Now name another one? Are you a little stumped? Then we're on the same page. Out of all the big heavily overpromoted movies to come out so far this year Star Trek is the only one that really left an impression on me (and i don't think it even came out in summer?) .

Let me know if you feel the same or send me some abuse if i'm dead wrong. Maybe i'm suffering some brain damage after seeing Transformers: Revenge of the fallen?

I feel the exact same way. This year, summer wise, has been crappy, with the exception of UP, Hangover, and Transformers(which wasn't perfect, but good). Terminator Salvation sucked so badly. That was a blow. Star Trek was good. This year has really been a let down, coming off that amazing year that was 2008.

Good to hear someone else feels the same. Terminator Salvation was a real let down for me too but I think I hyped it up way too much in my head. I just really hated that little kid that said nothing and the way Kyle Reese got sidelined for Marcus plus that dodgy rubber looking Arnie. Hangover was good bit I think Todd Phillips was trying a bit too hard to channel Judd Apatow. Haven't seen Up yet but i've heard good things.

I agree. Well i'm only 43 pages through the Funny People script so I hope it all turns out good, because Funny People will end up being pretty big
