This movie can be so unscary that it becomes funny.
Another sequel to a already dying trilogy. No wonder it was direct to dvd. The grudge had its moments but part two became so horrible that Takashi Shimizu dropped out as director. So when a white guy tries to make an asian horror remake, we almost have to grind our teeth hoping for a miracle. So horror takes a step back with this latest installment and people are starting to wonder if ever the genre will revive agian.
The film follows directly after Grudge 2. With Jake(Matthew Knight) now in a asylum. His caretaker Dr. Sullivan(Shawnee Smith) doesnt believe that he is cursed thus leaving him. Jake then dies in a terrible accident as Kayako cripples him. The film now goes into chicago. With a new family to terrorize. Lisa(Johanna Braddy) and her family is in danger as Kayako is prepared to take over the apartment. Dr.Sullivan is now on the investigation while Naoko(Emi Ikehata) may be the only chance anyone has to survive.
Filled with cheap scares and annoying groans, the only good thing that came out is Kayako in a less intimidating form. She looks whiter? Maybe in the snowy city of Chicago, she got her skin all washed up. So the film follows this girl who suffers from a past which creates a grudge that kills antything that moves. Awesome, now how do we kill it. Well apparently you have to drink blood and offer yourself to the evil spirits. Sounds like a hoax to me. A movie like this has no end. Has no remorse and its intentions is to find the next victim until everyone dies. So whats the point? Why make a movie when theres not a chance in the world that Kayako could ever be relinquished. Sometimes a idea like this works once or twice. But never three times, otherwise we would all be morons. Cheat me once, shame on you. Cheat me twice, shame on me. Cheat me the third time, and hello armageddon.
It still maintains that claustrophobic atmosphere and scare you with that awfull groan. But its not new and offers no real ideas. It finishes completely like the first two and you have to wonder when will they start making a film that doesnt copy itself. Thats where its all boring. Yes the awfull noises that the grudge makes can still scare you and put you to sleep real fast. But what else does it has to offer. Nothing really, which bothers me so. Theres no point in making a fourth one. In the end, you might as well watch the original. At least it holds credibility and makes the not so new, new agian.
If you wonder that a film similar like this would be great once agian, your wrong.
