A very good film. The acting was excellent, particularly Annette Benning as the title character, Julia. The story is captivating and interesting to watch - this is one of those movies where you become so absorbed you actually forget you're watching a movie at all, which is my favorite kind. Basically what it all boils down to is Julia being a catty old hag in the end and taking out all of her frustrations on the newer, younger woman Avice. Avice is made to bear the brunt of Julia's personal disappointments and frustrations over what events have occurred during the film, even though Avice is no better and no worse than anyone else in the movie. I therefore did not like this aspect of the movie's ending. Nonetheless, this movie was quite good and made for great entertainment. The best I've seen in awhile.

An unsatisfying waste of time. A tediously boring, downright annoying movie. I finally got around to watching this film three years after it came out. The main character (Clifford Heap)'s stuttering problem is annoying and I do not understand what Shymalan's intention to convey was in attributing a speech impediment to the main character in the movie. I only realized AFTER watching the film that Shymalan himself played another of the film's major characters, something I found retroactively absurd, narcissistic, and ridiculous. Unintentional hilarity can be found within this film, i.e. during Heap's excursion into the swimming-pool drain at the apartment complex. The movie drags on and on and on, with horrid, emotionally-charged dialogue but no action to back it up. The movie is almost an endurance marathon as to how long you can sit and watch, waiting for something to happen that never does. None of the characters in the film are likeable. I lost track of the scarfs, narfs, scrunts, grunts, and other mythological creatures of Shymalan's own creation. This film is utterly preposterous and embarassing for the viewer to watch. It was not in the least entertaining except for the unintentionally hilarious moments. A waste of time.

A horrid movie. Too many action sequences and not enough character development. I have just returned home from seeing this mess in theater and after the first 1/2 hour, I was just waiting for the movie to be over, but it dragged on and on becoming less watchable and more confusing with each passing minute. I had difficulty following the plot as it seemingly kept changing, and the goals of the characters also kept changing from one moment to the next. The acting of Shia Leboeuf was terrible, over the top, and left me cringing with embarrassment in certain scenes. Megan Fox apparently had no other role nor function in the movie except to run around looking pretty on screen - her character could have been eliminated entirely. There were preposterous parts of the film involving minor characters doing ridiculous things, or showing up where they wouldn't be expected. I admit I began having trouble telling some of the lesser-known Autobots and Decepticons apart after a certain point because there were so many robots in general and it wasn't clear to what end or towards what advancement of the story/plotline all these characters were necessary. The entire premise, or point to the film was difficult to follow, and it seemed like the action on screen sometimes had little to do with anything I could figure out. This film was nothing but pure silliness. I grew weary of the constant action sequences, explosions, robot fights, and drama. This is not a very good movie at all and I would not reccommend seeing it. Awful.
