Two audience "Super Reviewers" actually helped me very much. I just bought the Moroder version (cleaned up on Blu-Ray). I have had the VHS version forever and loved the use of added music and stills. Very easy to watch that version.
The Complete Metropolis as these two reviewers describe makes me think I have the overall better version already (Moroder's). I will watch The Complete Metropolis of course. But reviewers Zach Brehany and Michael Gildea called it for me. One extremely complimentary and the other not so much. Both had good things to say (I can't imagine otherwise).
There is such a thing as going too far for me as well. The directors cut of Blade Runner was no better (maybe even not as good) as the theatrical release, as one example. These two reviews helped me in this regard. It's a silent film and the symbolism is 90 years old. Maybe I don't need a film school graduate version and an OCD embellished sub-plot to confuse me.
Still, I will see it, but I may not add it to my collection. Sound track is as important as is any extra added confusion. Hopefully it got clearer (in story line) as did the visuals. We'll see soon. (10/16/2012)
