Valhalla Rising is without a doubt beautiful to look at, intreguing, and unique. Its just to slow and incoherent to entertain most audiences.
If your not completely absorbed or intrigued by the The films brutality, religulous themes, look or main charecter one eye,you will most likely find this film to be a comleplete bore. This is because this is not the type of film that sets out to be entertaining. It doesent care about thrilling action sequences or exciting battles. Its a film that tryes to hand out a unique expereiance to the viewers who can appreciate the little details. The film accomplishes this very well but ultimately crumbles under its pacing and random occurrences. To much of the time you ask yourself why without getting any answeres or find yourself wondering if what just happend was even necessary...somtimes this works if you really know how to pull it off but in this case it just makes the film feel that much more disjointed.
At the end of the day you really dont feel like you have witnessed the solid, poetic, viking epic you deserve. You feel as though you have studied an abstract work of art,not really knowing what all was hidden beneath its polished surface but sure that to the right people it may hold something deep or even beautiful.
Valhalla Rising is definately not a bad film, its just a film that will most likely appeal more to patient viewers who can see far beyond its beautiful but muddled surface.
