Granted, this isn't a great movie. But it honestly isn't half bad, once you take a good, long, painful look at it. It ain't Pixar, but it also ain't every other animated movie being shoved down your children's throghts through our modern media.
For the most part, this is a movie that tries to take an age-old story (Little Red Riding Hood) and make something new out of it. The characters are (Somewhat) developed and bathroom humor isn't (often) used. The story actually TRIES to make sense of itself as it combines four plotlines into one leading up to one giant climax, while altogether putting an innocent little spin on the classic riding hood tale. Some of the moments actually feel kind of fun. (Though more so for younger audiences, I can't stand watching this today.)
But, yes, this movie isn't all good, either. The voice acting feels stale, especially so for the wolf (apperence from that guy who was in every kid's movie in 2005). The animation is clunky, only the action scenes having effort put into them, (no dought to look good during the advertising campaign) and even the lip-sincing being horrible more often than not. There's that lumberjack who doesn't have much of a part and is more or less shoehorned in as comic relief. The main villan's goal is to shut down everybody's food buisnesses to create his own super-formula and "take over the world" or something. Kind of like plankton. Huh. And after that, some moments just feel unneccisary, like "Red" getting sulky about Granny lying to her about being a super-athleate and walking through a forest killing all plant life using her jedi mind tricks she picked up at kung-fu camp.
Another thing I have really wrong with this film is the pop-culture references. Pointless references to events that may or may not have occured and old movie lines from some 30 years back in a nostalgic classic now ruined from so many people referencing to it. This has been in a lot of animated movies latley and it really bugs the hell out of me. And while this doesn't happen a lot in this movie, it happens, (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE) and I just don't like it. Anyway.
All and all, this movie really isn't awful. The scenes are nice and the story is (for the most part) imaginative. Just maybe more emphisis on the animation and more original jokes and it would've been much better. But that said, it IS a bad movie, and one somebody probably wouldn't rewatch unless forced to.
If you have your own take on the movie, feel free to leave a comment.
