I would add to "grim and joyless", narcissistic and hedonistic (except for Isabelle's cooking) - also pseudo-intellectual.. I think , or at least I hope, it is intentional that the central characters are generally shallow and full of clichÃ (C)s (for '68 France - ok, the clips are memorable paradigms).. even if Bertolucci's uninhibited-ness is welcomed it proves empty; the film is ultimately lifeless, certainly questionable as to what it is really after...
Eva Greens "frontalia" sadly becomes the main reason to watch the film; she is a beauty, face definitely included...
