I managed to see more films last year than I have any other year of my life (although 2010 hasn't been too shabby in that aspect either). It probably has something to do with becoming a part of Examiner.com, taking it seriously, and considering it a second job of sorts, but the love of film is what's inspiring the most. This is based on personal taste when it comes to what was released in 2009 and probably doesn't contain too many surprises. Some people consider 2009 to be a rather mediocre year for cinema, but it seemed to be quite the opposite. There were still quite a few disappointments and letdowns, but nearly every trip to the theater that year ended with satisfaction or adoration. A few horror films were released that actually reminded hardcore fans that new horror isn't always terrible while indie films still managed to win over critics, the box office, and should have been considered for most award shows. Animated films are still just as great as ever while admired directors Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie released the two biggest box office successes of their careers. And let's not forget comedy. The Hangover is probably the most talked about film last year and for good reason. 2009 certainly seemed to have more hits than misses when it came to film. So here's a look back at my top 50 of 2009.
