Betty Blue (1986)
I was terribly impressed by this when I first saw it and thought Beatrice Dalle was fantastic. Now it just seems a bit hysterical, although the soundtrack is still hauntingly beautiful.

Barbra and Madeline in one film - what's not to love??!
The RT synopsis of this film uses the word "gleeful" and that about sums it up. I wanted to be Madeline Kahn for years after I first saw this - the most perfect female combination of sexy and funny there ever was.
"I was born a poor black child ..." Thus, as a poor white Irish college student was I introduced to Steve Martin in all his Steve Martin-ness. A devotee have I been ever since.
Can't believe it's taken me until now to write a review of this, my favorite comedy ever. Mel Brooks perfection. All the superlatives in the world wouldn't do justice to its inspired lunacy :)
