Bowie does an excellent job of portraying an other-wordly creature who becomes completely enamored with humanity and begins to fall victim to all our various vices. This can be seen as a "big issue" movie, but that is Dogme 95's way of messing with us. The film isn't supposed to be controversial and it isn't supposed to tug at our heartstrings. Of course it breaks some of the rules, but all of them do. While both attempt to find some distinctive characteristic to cling to, the script does nothing to help them. I am fan of both Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Although some of the movies facts were twisted thanks to Hollywood the movie was take from the book Public Enemies by Bryan Burrough. Johnny Depp as John Dillinger was pure perfection if you have seen any of the news clips of the real John Dillinger, you can see Depp walks like him, talks like, and smiles like him. While it doesn't live up to earlier Henson Company movies, Lisa Henson does an excellent job of channeling her father. However, this is not a movie for children. This is a movie for nostalgic young adults. With elements of childhood fantasy, teenage angst, and romantic interludes this movie is fit for all ages.
