Red Cliff is a beautifully filmed epic that is easily one of John Woo’s best movies of the past 5 years. The battle scenes are on a massive scale and well filmed. My one gripe about the battle scenes has little to do with quality and a lot to do with my personal preference. Some battle scenes mainly involve heroes taking on hordes of mindless foot soldiers rather than massive armies hacking at each other. However, this does not ruin the movie. It’s a huge fun movie that plays like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon meets lord of the rings.
