I really enjoyed this movie, and also gave it a highish rating as well, but I was hoping for it to be more close to the book, unlike goblet of fire there aren't that many subplots, it just didn't feel like much of the book was in the movie David yates and Alfonso Cuaron are the worst directors of the Harry Potter series and I didn't like how Harry seemed to high from the Felix felis potion. Don't you think Dumbledore mirrored Gandolf in a way? 1 Replies | Report Abuse 
actually i liked that harry seemed high. it was something i think that was necessary for the book to film transition. i think dumbledore fills the archetypal oracle role, which gandolf also filled, so perhaps you're feeling that similarity. but i think beyond that, they're fairly different. 0 Replies | Report Abuse 
A good review, however I disagree with The Goblet of Fire. Mike Newell did a great job with it and it is my second fav HP movie behind the incredible Half-Blood Prince. I didn't get what you meant by the actors talking like auctioneers either. I noticed that they did tend to talk a bit faster *cough* Emma Watson *cough* but they weren't speaking at lightning speed.I like how every director and movie feel different as well. yeah thats the first thing i noticed and identified with. I was terribly grateful that she wasn't some uptight, on- the- surface -bitch lawyer from hell chick or some wide- eyed airhead who works at Vogue, whose just waiting for the right man.I wonder what was going through her mind when she invited him for the engagement party. I think you captured how relentless Neeson was in this movie. The things he did were so jarring. They really found a great way to show off his talent. Another movie that had this feeling of unstoppable momentum was Shoot 'Em Up with Clive Owen. If you haven't seen it you should - you'll never look at carrots the same way again! Very shallow but very well put-together action movie... the writing and direction are classy and there's not a dull moment to be found. It's good to finally encounter a movie where sex-traders are the main villains. I was also put off by the idea of Neeson as a retired ex-CIA murder-machine (the just-one-of-the-guys barbeque scene in the beginning is especially hilarious) but of course it's Neeson so by the time things heat up you're completely sold.I also like all the claims that th 1 Replies | Report Abuse

I agree with your view of how awesome the ass-kicking is, but what about the movie itself, the plot? I agree, this is the time for the over 50 action heroes....Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford and now Mel Gibson. "Taken" was an edge-of-your-seat thrill a minute flick and as horrible as leaving the juice on for the creep strapped to the chair was you knew that was the right thing to do. I loved the movie. It has a bigger message than Chocolate or Johnny Depp being a gypsy. It makes you think not to judge someone by their appearance, or who you think they may be. I didn't think the movie was bad, but I agree that the plot was far too predictable.The whole subplot with Christianity was something that was well developed in the novel. An old man doing his own stunts is too unrealistic for live-action? LOL.....Cool review.If computers and humans had sex then Terminators would be their children. Saw this movie and loved it also, and will be reviewing it today. Pandora is definitely a place where you want to spend more than 3 hours. Plus you're right the blend of CGI is some of the best I have seen, especially with the stop-motion capture technology.

I was one of the ones who complained about this not being original. I thought the world and the creatures were very original and I'm glad for that. The problem wasn't that the plot had been done before, for me at least. The problem was that the plot had been done before so that it was entirely predictable. That's my opinion.

good review. though i am one of these "snobs" you coin. I just felt for a film that is going to make that much, i expect a little originality in PLOT. The whole of it is okay, the visuals are amazing. I did like the first half a little dances with wolves but the film stayed original but the ending is so formulaic i couldn't get over it. i guess my expectations were just too high.

Interesting review, although I must say I disagree with some of it. The acting wasn't great, at all. The CGI cat people were better actors than the actual actors. The dialogue was horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE. I enjoyed the movie, but mostly as eye-candy. Sure, it was a technological achievement, but it lacked as an over-all film. This film was like a shiny new car that has a ton of new technological features, it is fast, yet the ride isn't very smooth.

good review and very true. i think peeps are just wailing on avatar because it's not a macho man action flick. how many times have we seen the big strong white man save the damsel and win the day? thousands upon thousands of times! and then something truly original comes along and everyone wants to say it's been done before. they're just mad because they know that this is exactly what humans would do to an alien species or any native population for that matter.

I understad your point. Avatar is entertainment... that is why it only tries to excel technically and is not trying to create something that fulfills your soul which is the purpose of art.I enjoyed Avatar as entertainment, but it felt hollow. I didn't learn anything from it, and after two weeks I have already lost all the excitement about it.It's like a candy bar. Instant easily forgettable pleasure. Art on the contrary lasts forever.

well i once went to the salvador dali museum in florida and it was awesome, at the time. i really enjoyed his nonsensical art from his late period. i was so caught up in the moment that i even bought a replica. then i got home, and lost it. so it definitely did not last forever. it lasted a solid 45 minutes, which is the amount of time it took to drive home and notice its misplacement.

Honestly aside from the cgi I hated this film it is a blemish on the master film maker James Cameron Terminator and Aliens was so much better now even though I don't agree I can respect a well made review nice job

thanks. it's hard for me to compare it to aliens, because i love that film too, and it's true that it had more depth. none the less, i can't help but feel entertained by it. i actually saw it a third time, and found it a bit long. but three times is a lot, in a theater, so maybe it's expected.
