The Green Hornet is not that bad a movie, it does have some cheesy acting and probably the casting isn't fantastic but still a fun action film.

Seth Rogen is a little out of place in this film he seems to play the same loser as he has done in his other films. He brings little humour but luckily for the Green Hornet the action out ways the desire this film has to be a action/comedy.

A good comic adaption, not the greatest and it won't compare to some of the other comic films that will be coming out in 2011 but I do believe it will have a sequel because it is a fun film.

    True Grit (2010)
    Genre:
    Western
    100%

    Posted on 2/03/11 05:15 PM

True Grit has easily become one of my favorite movies of all time, everything about this film just speaks classic in my opinion.

The Coen brothers are fantastic and bring life to a good book (not a fantastic book but still a good read)and make it brilliant on screen. They do an amazing job at casting the right people who fit the bill of each Character.

True Grit mixes harsh realities with moments of insecurity, compassion and will. Jeff Bridges is simply amazing providing both drama and the comic relief in various moments, his chemistry with Matt Damon is fantastic and also with Hailee Steinfeld who is strong, courageous and determined; she deserves her nomination.

People will most probably have issues with the slowness of story and the underwhelming ending; but in my opinion that is what makes this film so amazing. Josh Brolin plays Chaney extremely well, he is not a villain full of courage but really a coward who gets muddled. The ending of this justifies the intensity of the villain and really the focus on this film is not about action but rather interaction.

    I love this film.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
    Genre:
    Drama
    90%

    Posted on 1/06/11 05:11 PM

If there was a movie that was perfect for the outrageous creativity and genius of Tim Burton it is Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

When I first heard about this film it was described to me like this ... Its a movie about Johnny Depp slashing peoples throats while singing about it and my initial thoughts were thats crazy! But the I heard Tim Burton was directing and that it involved a cast of Helen Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman and more I was no longer worried but excited!

It is a brilliant film, I loved every minute of it, all the cast are enthusiastic and awesome not looking dull or out of place the entire film.

The musical aspect is fantastic, I would not agree that it is the best musical but it is fun (and I would love to see a school do it one day!). All the cast commit to the musical which is what is needed in order to make musicals work especially on screen.

My only little problem was with the blood, not in a "blood is yuck" sense but more that because they tried hard to make the blood stand out, with dull colours and the blood being so bright. But by doing that I felt the blood looked to fake; its only a little fixation I had.

All in all one of my favorites for 2007 and another classic Depp movie.

    Interview with the Vampire (1994)

    Posted on 1/06/11 03:26 PM

At least Interview With The Vampire is classed as fresh on Rotten Tomatoes even though I don't agree with it only just making it into the fresh zone. It is worth more then 60%!

This movie makes you realize how shallow and poor the Twilight 'Saga' really is and I am a fan of the Twilight series. This is a true Vampire movie which brings out the darkness and violence of the vampire life that is missed in the more civilized Twilight movies. Without making this review a comparison my meaning is this was a far more enjoyable movie!

Brad Pitt is his usual fantastic self, I really enjoy Brad Pitt in the majority of his films he is a fine actor who deserves all the credit he gets. He has a great narrating voice in this film and really represents a tormented soul.

The one surprise in this film was Tom Cruise, I am not a fan of Cruise at all, I find him irritating and annoying in all of his films (apart from Rain Man). But he really does suit the character of Lestat, he started to make a mild believer in me.

Just quickly want to give props to Kirsten Dunst, she was awesome!

This film has great flow and awesome dialog, it is dark, gritty and depressing but a great film all the same.

Good review. When this came out it was considered too fruity - since Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were the "Twilight pretty boys" of their time - so I can't really agree. Of course Twilight has lowered the bar so much that even this movie looks edgy by comparison!

Nice review.I thought it was entertaining, and I really enjoyed it's baroque setting. The elegant yet brutal tone set in this movie aside,it wasn't perfect by a long shot. Still this is leagues above Twilight, which is essentially Tween-soap-romance,that has watered down the vampire myth, to some bland emo-kids sporting fangs.

    Posted on 1/06/11 02:29 PM

Disney's Tangled is a perfect film, Disney is getting back to their classical best with this fairytale. With it's amazing graphics and beautiful visuals its Characters are refreshing and fun with all of them having some unique element or quality to explore throughout the film.

I can't really find a fault with this film, it was the first movie that my wife and I took our little girl to and she sat there, eyes glued to the screen for the whole duration; and to me that is a good indication of a great film.

Tangled also has one of the best soundtracks behind it, beautiful movie that really captures the emotion of the moment. It is definitely some of the finest music that Disney has produced with a movie in some time.

I can't see how many people would dislike this film, I am trying to find faults with it but struggle to find anything that is really worth bringing up. It feels like the old classics while watching and really does bring out the child in you; worthy to be called a great Disney film.

I disagree with you on the music. The songs in the film are some of the most unmemorable songs ever put into an animated film. Tangled would've done better as an action/comedy flick, but as it is, it's not bad.

    Little Fockers (2010)

    Comedy
    50%

    Posted on 1/04/11 03:57 PM

Little Fockers was not as bad or lazy as I thought it was going to be at first. It is the same tired jokes and really the same storyline as the Meet the Parents but there is something fun about this film.

I think Ben Stiller is very funny in this film, alongside with Owen Wilson, they both just make a great duo on screen with a fantastic chemistry.

Robert De Niro is solid as always, but again just tired jokes and a same old storyline. The same with Dustin Hoffman solid just tired.

I liked this installment better then the 2nd and I don't really think it is as bad or rotten as most would like to make out, although not fresh it does have some fun moments. Really just a good pop-corn flick.

So although it has it's haters (which is fine) it was one movie where you could just sit and enjoy. Hopefully this will be the last, although it does give a glimpse of maybe another at the end. It is not going to be the best film of year but it was a fun, average film that kept me and my wife entertained for the duration.

Tron Legacy, a film that was just a random pick for me and a mate and without having much knowledge of it's predecessor and having concerns from reading other peoples reviews and the majority being negative; it actually wasn't that bad.

The special effects are awesome, and if any movie needed to be in 3D this one at least makes some sense. It was fun and action orientated that coincided with a great soundtrack more then I was expecting.

Yes the storyline is weak and really the only good thing about this film is Jeff Bridges, who is a class act in which I have grown to love.

Simply put, Tron Legacy, was an easy movie to watch with fun action, good special effects average acting. I didn't feel I had to think to much, a great pop-corn flick.

    Gulliver's Travels ... meh!

I classic story being told through the antics of Jack Black (who I think is hilarious in most films). A good film for the summer I guess but I found myself feeling pretty bored through most of it.

Jack Black is a funny guy but really has created the one type of stale character, he reminds of Adam Sandler (meaning that it always feels like your watching Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore). In the case of Jack Black you feel like your watching that guy from School of Rock just in another film. Which you do get over!

There are funny moments but really just the same fat/rock/weird eyebrow movements that we find in the majority of Jack Black movies.

It's a below average film, that doesn't really come across as anything special. I think this is the only way that Gulliver's Travels could be told to a modern audience, to try and do it seriously would probably come across even worse then this film.

Even though I have come across negative, I can't say I hated or even disliked this film; it was just the same as all his other films.

Go see it if you absolutely have to!!
