So like the Nostalgia Critic i've decided to do a ltitle big of a match-off over some movies only concenring the opinion of ones that are not out yet. and to start this off i'd thought of starting the debt about which Marvel movie for next year is going to be the best, Thor or Captain America.
the way this will go with that i'll make my point or match-off and then i'll ask your opinion so yeah.
Round I: Loyalty to the comic and story line
Thor: well based on what we can gather from the photos and the trailer, we know that Thor, like any other movie based off a superhero comic focuses on the general story of the hero. generally their purpose as a hero and how they came to be. Thor is shown to have that just fine...except for his secret identety. His other identity, Dr. Donald Blake, is this Doctor (obviously) with a bag leg and not in that great shape even then, who starts out shy in the comics at first when it came to his feelings from his nurse assistant. Whereas the trailer shows us that when he's Donald Blake, he still has his long blond hair and gotee and while he's not Thor, he's still well off as far as muscle & such. Granted, some secret identities in movie tht are different fromt he comics turn out alright like with Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies. but this does not sound like the case here.
Captain America: well we don't have any trailers yet for this movie but we do have it for a fact that this movie falls almost entierly to Captain America's origin and his part in World War II. what's different as far as we know is that it looks like the Cap's secret identity, Steve Rogers is going to start out looking in good shape even BEFORE he's Captain America while in the comics, he's hardly fit to be anywhere in the army before becoming the Cap.
Result: there is more to find our still. with captain america especially while it doesn't have a trailer yet. but for now, what we have currently shows that since there is no main flaw to Captain America, while Thor has a certain change in his secret identity. And while Captain America will not show the whole general story of this hero, what they have planned for that movie as something they expect to make sequels out of, is actually a very good idea in my book.
Round II: Design
Thor :With the design with mainly costume and set and all that with this movie, it shows Asgard and any of the other relms that are shown in the movie, are made to look more like something from The Golden Compass rather than anything more like what could possibly imagine from the pagan world.
Captain America: Most of the design is actual during the World War set but it had a little bit of outside of that time period with mainly the special nazi forces and their outfits.
Conclusion: well the outfits of some of the forces of the nazi's are not of the particular time period, but they still have a bit of World War II to actually show for it. the designer for Thor on the other hand are not really trying to bring the world of Thor and Asgard to life and should therefore be ashamed of themselves
Round III: Carrying out the role of the hero based on just the actor (and trailer too if there is one avaliable.
Chris Hemsworth I don't know a thing about Chris Hemsworth outside of his breif part as Jim Kirk's father. But i know fromt he traielr that with both being Donald Blake and Thor that he's going to play out as this hot-tempetered, sturbborn bad-a.
Chris Evans: he's going to be played my Chris Evans...
Conclusion: we my have no proof of how Evans may or may not be as the Cap, but we know enough about him that he SHOULDN'T BE ANYWHERE NEAR THE FRICKING ROLE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! he already did his part for Marvel as the Human Torch. and that should be it. no one should EVER be allowed to do another moive for a comic company...except dominic monigan. idk what he should also be but i think he's too much to have just a very breif place in the Marvel movies. i mean it's bad enough that he was killed off in LOST...those a-holes. anyway, while Evans may be a action star was well as a comedian, the action doesn't make him anywhere worthy to be the one to bear the uniform and shield of Captian America. Captain America is one of the best heroes there is that cares for the individual as well as the freedom of his nation. Heck, the Civil War comics from a fe wyears back was a story about a War that the Cap both began and ended it by surrendering just because of his care for the individual. that's what makes him a great hero. i just don't see Evans carrying out that much of Captain America even if they're actually making the movie to show how great he is that way. But with Thor, we know that the role is filled just fine as far as showing how Thor started out as being a really Hot-tempered and stubborn pagen god.
Round IV: Director
Kenneth Branagh: known for directing shakesphere movies like Henry V, Much ado about Nothing and Hamlet. Outcome of his movies: most of them are very good, but his last two movies were not all that great.
Joe Johnston: Known for directing The Pagemaster, Jumanji, Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III and The Wolfman. Outcome of his movies: mixed but mainly pretty bad movies.
Conclusion: Johnston is the weakest int erms of bad movies but so far for these two particualr movies, Branagh seems to actually be the weakest. thsi falls in line to loyalty to the comic and it not looking all that good even then, sure. But what really kills me is the design. Yes most of the design from most of his best movies are ones fit for shakephere film, and i might not be halfway done yet with seeing as many of the movies as I can, but I for one would think that Branagh would know better than any of these two directors, to go outside of how the designs should be. so with that, i think Johnston has the better odds.
CURRENT WINNER-Captain America
while both of these movies have the potential of beings altogether flops in the superhero movie making business, is seems like Captain America has be best chance of fulfilling it's role despite not even having a trailer yet.
so post comment of what you thought of this and who do you think is the more likley to be the best out of the two or about these movies in general.
