The Social Network was the sure bet heading into this weekend, then suddenly, The King's Speech stunned at the PGA, SAG, DGA. Stealing all of the Social Network's momentum.
Here's why I think True Grit may steal Best Picture:
Now, it seems like The King's Speech is the sure bet, but don't count out True Grit. The Social Network is sure to get a ton of votes. You can't forget True Grit, critically acclaimed and a bona fide box office hit. Hollywood would love to see the return of the Western, with great box office numbers, a Best Picture win could do wonders for the genre. I believe it could benefit from a vote split, which would stun everyone, but it could happen.
Even though Hooper won the DGA, I still think it's Fincher's to lose. He's a respected filmmaker, and it'd almost a slap in the face to ignore him again.
Portman and Bening are in a tight race for Best Actress, but it's clearly Portman's to lose.
Christian Bale and Colin Firth are locks in the Actor categories.
Best Supporting Actress is an interesting category. Melissa Leo seems sure to win, but don't forget Adams will get some votes, and many people respect Steinfeld's performance in True Grit. It's a tight three way race, but it's Leo's to lose.
Inception will win all the technical awards, sound, visual effects.
The Social Network will win Best Score, and Adapted Screenplay.
Toy Story 3 will obviously win Best Animated Film, is their even a doubt? Seeing as the other two films aren't in the top 10 for Best Picture, it would be truly stupid and mind boggling if one of them won. This isn't even a race.
What are your thoughts of the upcoming Oscars? I'd love to hear.
