Showing 1 - 1 of 1 Movie Blogs
Having recently purchased my first Blu-ray I've been renting like crazy and re-watching many of my favorite movies. Some for the enhanced picture and others for the extra features that can only be found on the Blu-ray format.
Lately, I've discovered there is a trend in new releases to have a "rental" copy released to the rental outlets such as Blockbuster, Red Box etc. and another for purchase. The rental copy contains nothing but the movie - nothing! In many cases there is not even a menu option - the movie just starts!
The two in particular I've seen this on are Terminator: Salvation and Harry Potter HBP.
Once again the industry does whatever the hell it wants and the consumer has no choice but to go along with it. This is why it would be better for all of us if there were competition in formats - but compatibility with hardware.
Towards the end of the Blu-ray vs HD-DVD war more and more companies were releasing players that were compatible with both formats. This would have been better because the competition may well have prevented this intolerable trend.
I wish there were something I could do about it but unfortunately we - the consumers - are powerless to do anything but shake our fist at the sky or write in blogs!
I suppose I could boycott the format and see if the trend stops but it would mean not being able to enjoy the enhanced picture of Blu-ray. And they know that, which is why it will most likely continue unabated.
Corporate tyranny is the Hitler of the future.
Overly melodramatic?? Perhaps, but I'm really pissed right now so forgive me.
