Powerful. Gorgeous. Heart pounding. Just a few words that I would describe for this masterpiece. James Franco gives one of the best performances I've seen all year. Right up there with Jesse Eisenberg in the Social Network. Your eyes will be glued to the screen with his amazing performance. He will get an Oscar nod for sure. The cinematography is gorgeous. The wide canyon shots are stunning. But the closer, more clausterphobic shots make you feel you are right in that canyon with him. The film really makes you think, "What would I do in a situation so grusome?" Would you do what Ralston did, and cut your arm off or would you stay there and die? I think anyone would do what he did. After being stuck for five days, you'd face facts and do whatever was necessary to get out of there. Now about the arm cutting scene itself. It's graphic. Very bloody. You do see the inside of his arm. But to me it wasn't bad. I've seen plenty of bloody scenes. Now I will say if you aren't used to such graphic and bloody type scenes. But see the scenes that follow are some of the most uplifting you'll ever see in a film. Danny Boyle delivers another masterpiece.
