In 1891 London, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson race to prevent the ritual murder of a girl by Lord Blackwood. They arrive just in time to stop him, Inspector Lestrade and the police arriving just after to arrest Blackwood.
Three months later, Holmes is without a new case and has become bored. Watson prepares to leave 221B Baker Street to establish his own business, and intends to marry Mary Morstan and Holmes is none too happy.
It is the day of Blackwood's execution and he requests Holmes' presence. [Blackwood has terrorized inmates and jailers alike with his seeming connection to dark and powerful forces] He warns Holmes that death has no power over him and, in fact, his execution plays right into Blackwood's plans.
And when, by all indications, Blackwood makes good on his promise, his apparent resurrection panics London and confounds Scotland Yard. But to Holmes, the game is afoot.
Racing to stop Blackwood's deadly plot, Holmes and Watson plunge into a world of the dark arts and startling new technologies, where logic is sometimes the best crime-fighting weapon...but where a good right hook will often do the job...
What a Movie!
Renowned detective Sherlock Holmes, accepts the task of tracking down a murderer, while dealing with his ever changing life. Guy Ritchie shows he's got the goods to keep an audience on the edge of their seats for two hours.
The story lives up to the literature and focuses on Holmes and Watson attempting to solve a mystery, with action elements to keep the story moving. Ritchie's brilliantly crafted action scenes were perfectly executed without
going overboard and never detracted anything from the film.
Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and the entire cast had great chemistry, delivering colourful, charismatic performances and served the wonderful script on a silver platter for our cinematic delights.
On top of all this, the production team managed to shoot and create old London beautifully, capturing the ambiance and mood of the period. The film struck a perfect balance of
mystery, adventure, humor and action that will be enjoyed by anyone ready for the ride.
If you a fan of Sherlock Holmes, it's a must see. I find this one the best Holmes-Watson duo yet.
Why not 100%? Downey Jr. had a bit of a problem doing the english accent...
