The movie was build on a good, if not great, premise about the somewhat hidden force behind our REAL economic maladies. It started good, got better in the middle, but the ending ruined the whole story. It's still a good entertainment, if you are looking for more than that, please look elsewhere ("The Corporation" documentary for example or even Michael Moore's "Capitalism"). I guess this is my last straw for Mr. Stone as a director. "Nine" is a case to point. It has great shoes to fill, one from its Broadway predecessor and the other is surely from Fellini's 8 1/2 which the story is based. I once put my rating(a little lower than this one) and a few words review about this movie. I must admit that on the first look in the cinema, this movie is all glitz and glitters and glamor and sensuality without any real deep story that makes Fellini's 8 1/2 a Classic. "Nine" takes the sexuality theme of 8 1/2 and uses it as its main theme. At some points in the movie, I do feel that I see a Victoria's Secret ad movie. But, nah, VS would never ever use Judi Dench as a model. If you are looking for a good time, fun, eye-pleasing, catchy music kind of entertainment; I recommend this movie. But don't expect more. 	Votes +3 +3 / -0 thumb up thumb down Better Luck Tomorrow (2002) Genre: Drama 100% Posted on 4/27/10 07:04 AM There are only few movies which represent Asian American community and out of the few, so far "Better Luck Tomorrow" is the best for the youth theme. The best thing about this movie is that it's paced at real life's pace, it almost feels like you are watching a reality show about some overachiever Asian teenagers and their mischiefs. There are violence, drug, and sex just like any other modern movie, but they are indeed really very necessary to the story. The movie worked its characterization well, I almost compared the gang to the Peanuts gang grown up wrong (I know, I am weird). This movie, which is based on the same titled novel by Ray Bradbury, is the visualization of the theme. It was set in some near future (or perhaps it's already here and now) in a society where firemen are making fire by burning books. Books are illegal in the story for books can make people think and being unhappy. The sole purpose of the society is to make everyone happy and have some uniformed thoughts (kinda soft version of Orwell's 1984). Have you read the novel? The movie is kinda rush itself in the end, so it's not a perfect 100% but still a good adaptation.
