I loved the original (just recently saw it too!) so I'm looking forward to seeing what this remake has to offer.

I thought the movie was pretty dull. That husband was annoying the hell out of me...he really needed to grow a pair early on. Glad you mentioned the rapes scene from the early movie and how it seemed like she somewhat enjoyed it....I actually got the same feeling watching this one...there was a moment when she seemed like she was into it. So, I think they still hinted towards that same theme. Great review as always...especially the mention of "Hollywood." :-)

I always try to mention either the color purple or Hollywood in my reviews. Hoffman was kind of a wimp in the first one, too, but he was an interesting wimp, not an annoying wimp.

Love your last paragraph by the way but wondering what percent is this remake delves on familiar territory- would you say half or more than half?

I'd say that the two scripts are nearly identical (but it's been many years since I saw the first one). But the direction and acting in the original are superior.
