There is such a difference of opinion on this film. I saw it a couple months ago and I am still not sure what I think about it. Tell me your thoughts- let's discuss!

I'm like you cannot figure out to hate or like it. I love the beauty of it and the performances, but that ending I felt was very pretentious.

I hated it. It was like watching someone home movies during a National Geographic marathon. It was painful to sit through

    Inception: Overrated?

Before I say what I'm about to say, I just want to say that I really do LOVE Inception. The only thing is is that I think some are over doing it a little bit. I mean, it's great, but if I have to hear another person say that they're "mind was blown" or "I've nevver seen anything like it" or "it changed my life" I'm going to scream. Seriously, have you never seen a good movie before? Maybe I'm the only one, but the first thing I thought when I saw it was that it was a cross between "Shutter Island" and "The Dark Knight" thrown into the sci-fi genre. Contrary to some people's opinion, I don't think that Inception had the depth that those two movies both had. I consider both those movies complete masterpieces, but again, that may just be me. Please, tell me your thoughts; I want to know if I'm the only one thinking this way.

Inception, in my opinion, was great and I think the reason why it was great was not the concepts that it presented, but it was a movie that really made you think after you were done. I mean, with the ending, you could make an argument for a bunch of different meanings and find evidence in the film to back up each claim. Also, I think just compared to all the other stuff out this year, Inception just seemed that much better. Plus, Christopher Nolan did spend a lot of time making it visually and mentally arresting.

To be honest, I've always had this feeling about the dark knight. Everyone I know still considers it the best movie they ever saw....but it's not even in my top ten any more. As for Inception, well I didn't think it was the absolute masterpiece either. I wanted to love it, and I did really liked it (score of 97, which is my highest-score equivalent of 3 1/2 stars out of four, 99 is a masterpiece, 98 is a four-star film that falls short, which was the score I gave to Shutter Island and the Dark Knight)* but I was disappointed by the actors/characters. So much was spent developing Dicaprio's story and the dream concepts, that I felt the entire supporting cast was really weak, with little personality or depth to their characters. That is why all the "every performance was great" quotes in reviews have confused me. So Girly, I actually have a slightly lower opinion of it then you. You're not alone. *I've just realized how absurdly complex my scoring system sounds when I describe it. Sorry... **I've also just realized how ridiculously long this comment is...

hey, no problem; i love long comments and i think it's great that you put a lot of thought into your rating system i really can't say any movie is the best movie i ever saw but i really do love dark knight and it's definitely on my top 5; i love that you gave shutter island a four star rating! you made an interesting point about how they didn't really explore the characters of the supporting cast but i didn't really mind that they focused a lot on dicaprio's character because he's one of my favorite actors (if not my favorite) it's really nice to know that i'm not the only one!

I enjoyed it a lot, but my mind was definitely not blown because the ideas presented in Inception weren't exactly new or innovative and the narrative was bloated. I prefer Memento and The Dark Knight myself. Also 'overrated' makes no sense. Altoguh I get what you mean by your blog entry.

It was very good, but I, personally, do not like ambiguity. It creates discussion, which I'm all for, but it's just not my cup o' tea. I also think its weaker elements (character, storytelling) are magnified from Nolan's previous efforts (notably, The Dark Knight).

I liked Inception overall, but I was extremely disappointed in the final product. I actually got pretty bored during a few scenes because they felt so long and drawn out. It was a good film, but nothing I could watch again.

well i dissagree that i wouldn't watch it again; i've seen it 6 times in the theater already i would agree that some parts got kinda slow, especiallly the part on the mountain i kinda spaced out cuz everyone was dressed alike and i couldn't tell who was who and i kinda lost interest

I absolutely think it is overrated, and wrote a review saying so. I felt at least half of it was like a "Dreams 101" class with too many glossary terms. I should have brought a notebook. That niggling suspicion that this movie might not be the classic it was hyped up to be is why I don't it will be much remembered 5 years from now. It's simply too complicated and emotionally shallow. It's not "The Matrix".
