Thought(s) of the Moment
I watched Walk the Line on (an extremely well-designed) DVD last night. It was a completely different experience the second time around, and this time I liked it a lot more. It was even inspirational at times

I've had a few fantastic rock-star hair days in a row, which is great, you know... because it's of utmost importance and all.

Enjoy the industry awards tonight :)

Must admit, a bit trepidatious about seeing this film. I wondered whether it would be successful in getting it's social commentary/message accross, or whether it would just be depressing. Sounds like it worked for you, anyway. :)

Some people describe it as tragic, and I can see where that comes from. There are some depressing points, but I find it much more on the side of that social commentary/message thing you're talking about :)

Great use of the word 'trepidatious' by the way!

*bows* I am trying to follow Cher's example and learn a new word everyday. "I hope not sporadically..." :D

I feel good about myself every time I find a sensible way to work the word 'anthropomorphism' into conversation. The justified looks of confusion on peoples' faces afterwards is always interesting, also.

I think we can all learn from following Cher's example... ... ... :p

If you can work that word into more than one conversation, ever, I am terribly impressed.

Cher is just so damn adorable.

She kind of is, isn't she? Hm. Have you heard about her so-called chicken coops? Supposedly guys will gather in a room after her concerts and she'll pick out two or three that she wants to have her way with. I guess this could easily be a rumor for any big music talent on tour ever, but I specifically heard it about her. It's also an interesting thing to bring up in the comment thread of a review for a film of the sort discussed... sexual freedom and all. I can't say I'm against what Cher allegedly does (in the off-chance it's true,) since all parties are consenting and I'm sure the group has a blast - I think the issue would boil down to the nature of celebrity versus commonplace folk.

Ah, we are talking about different Cher's. I mean the one off "Clueless".

But, anyway...no I hadn't heard that, and I totally agree. Such an ordinary statement about any rocker, but seems unsettling when it's a woman. And the celebrity thing...the groupie issue is so damn demeaning, and also really sad that we can literally worship other people based on very little to do with how dear they are to us.

OH! That Cher. I've been Cluelessless for a while now, forgot even that that was the character's name.

I try to stray from worshipping celebrities, and I think I do a pretty good job of that. People, say, who follow their favorite band on tour, spending all their time and earnings just trying to stay as close as they can to a hopeless hope, are feigning glory and actually quite pathetic :(

I can't disapprove of groupie/celebrity hookups whole-heartedly, but the most exciting aspect of sex to me is the deep emotional connection that becomes almost tangible during the act. It may be fetish to treat your partner as a pure sex object, but in these post-concert quickies the fantasy becomes truth and while all parties may be having the time of their lives, it's just not the meaningful experience I, myself, long for.

Yep, I used to think more along the lines of disconnected was more fun, but...well, once you've had love... :)

Absolutely. I... can't even put into words how much I am looking forward to finding my perfect woman, being her perfect man, falling in love and... yeah, that whole bit. My spin on the white picket fence :)

"Why is sex so foreign to mainstream culture?"
I haven't seen this film. Is this really the message? If so it's hypocritical. That industry perpetrates the segregation of sexuality.

Interesting hypothesis! How do you feel that is so? In that they are a subculture? I think their nature, shrouded from the public eye, is due to the fact that most of what they do is illegal.

Or are you referring to the dominance of men in the industry compared to the exploitation of women? I'd say there that it's true, men are given the power... it is a strange place though, because in men having the physical power, the women actually hold the sway, and recently, as is the case with such stars as Belladonna, Jewel DeNyle and Annabel Chong herself, the women have been taking the reigns.

The film American Psycho brings to light other aspects though - the reprecussions of porn in society, which consist of violence toward women. Personally, I don't dissaprove of the idea of pornography, I just don't like how it is carried out, and I believe that the awful reprecussions can be attributed to that sloth. Barely any effort is put into its production - it has potential to be a classy art form. Besides, the documentary is about Chong herself - it does not try to justify the industry as a whole.

Well, it's removed from reality. It's not about desire cos it's a job, therefore it's a pretence of sexuality.
To me, this film sounds like a feigned moral stance.

I think you're absolutely right, which is where one must take the meaning of Chong's "work" and set aside the actuality of it, because having sex with 251 men doesn't prove anything aside from her stamina. I'm not impressed or anything with the 251 man thing, but I've gotta admit she did find a way to get her message out there.

EDIT: When you think about it (this just dawned on me) ... the people in the porn industry are similar to the people in any other industry. Some love it and do it because it's their passion and they truly enjoy it, others do it simply because it comes to them easily. That's not to further justify anything, just to note something I thought of.

That women are equal to men and that sexuality is not something that should be supressed.

Meh. She achieved its inversion. Insincerity is suppression.

I definitely feel where you're coming from. The documentary is where her message comes through - the achievement is barely worthy of even being called an 'achievement.'

So does this movie actually SHOW some of her day of having sex with 300 men?

I'm weary about seeing it...I've never been big into porno.

I imagine it has a significant amount of nudity in it...but it isn't a porno itself, is it?

It has a large amount of nudity and it does show some clips from her films and the gang bang, but it does not show anything X-rated.

I, for the life of me, can't understand why someone would ever want to do something like that.
