Showing 1 - 7 of 7 Movie Blogs
So I wanted to wait until I saw 'Middle Men' which I did just recently because it was never widely released last August. Then I saw a few more from last year and now I can finally safely order all the movies I have seen from 2010 which is a surprising 80 at last count, 70 of which I saw in the theater! :-)
Now the movies at the top of this list are my personal favorites of last year I do not claim they are the best of last year. I choose the ones that I thought entertained me the most and the ones that have the highest chance for me to buy them and add them to my vast movie collection. The movies at the bottom of the list are the movies that disappointed me the most. This order is not written in stone but is pretty close.
I am sure your list differs, maybe greatly even, from mine but anyway, these are mine. I enjoyed a lot of movies in 2010 and I think 2011 might be even better!

Warner Bros. Plans Wizard of Oz Remake
November 17, 2010
Warner Bros. has plans to move forward with a remake of the classic The Wizard of Oz, reports Deadline.
Planning to shoot from the script to the 1939 version (which, though it is by far the best known, wasn't the first filmic iteration of the L. Frank Baum story), WB is said to be in talks with Robert Zemeckis to helm the property.
Zemeckis, meanwhile, is currently working on a performance-capture remake of The Beatles animated film, Yellow Submarine, and was announced to make a return to live action with a time travel story, Timeless (though that has been called into some question with the news that Phillip Noyce is now attached to potentially the same project.)
Warner Bros.' version of The Wizard of Oz would go up against Disney's planned Oz-prequel, Oz, the Great and Powerful, in development now with Sam Raimi attached to direct.
Summertime Entertainment, meanwhile, has planned an animated sequel to the original Oz tale entitled Dorothy of Oz, planned for release next year.
UPDATE: TheWrap has confirmed that Zemeckis does not have plans to direct the remake.
A friend of mine here at RT Christian S. Back made a great vblog and posted it on You Tube:
(The following vlog is a respectful, compassionate address to people who text at the movie theater. Click here.) Check out his blog its pretty good!
I found this so great and I agreed with him so much that I wondered why I had not put my feelings down in a blog about this topic so here it is:
The cell phone craze is here to stay whether we like it or not and an unfortunate side effect of it is the epidemic of people opening their cell phones in a dark movie theater after a movie has started and it has reached dizzying heights. It has gotten so bad that I have been forced by these a-holes to now often sit in the front row so the annoying losers that open their phones are all behind me where I can't see them. Of course however I still get the occasional a-hole that sits in the front row with me and opens their phone. I would love to send an emp pulse in the theater that would only affect cell phones, that would be awesome!
Chris says in his vblog that it is ok for people to open their phones to check the time during a movie however I disagree. All running times are listed for every movie as well as the start times so if you do a little simple math you are all set no need to open your stupid phone and brighten up the theater an annoy all those people around you. Plus if you are checking the time you are probably not enjoying the movie and you certainly are not paying as close enough attention as you should be.
Chris also states that phones shoud be banned from theaters this I also don't agree with him on. Some people have to be on-call or just in case of an emergency it can be helpful to have a phone with you. But in that case I would say put the phone on vibrate and walk outside into the hall to take call.
In summary opening a bright cell phone (and they are all bright) after a movie has started is absolutely the rudest thing you can do in a movie theater these days. No one can make a valid argument for why they should be able to open a phone for more than a quick second. Just do not do it and tell others to not do it and hopefully little by little more and more people will stop doing it. Thanks.
Mark M Bonner recently reviewed 'X-Men: The Last Stand' which I think he gave a fair rating to of 7 out of 10, good but not as good as the first two X-Men movies. It probably is rated lower by big fans of the comic book. In his review he also asked if the franchise should be continued. That question got me thinking, since I had heard it before regarding movies like X-Men, and it led to this blog.
In response to his question of whether they should make another, I say, yes please. It is true the X-Men franchise will focus on origin stories now but they certainly could revisit the big cast X-Men movies eventually. Especially with how they left off the 3rd movie. Sometimes people ask should they make another Spider-Man or Superman or X-men movie or whatever and I say they should. I think they should make as many as they want. Since these are some of my favorie types of movies to watch I say more is better. Will all of them be homeruns? No. But some of them will be.
Just look at 'Star Trek' for example. When you first heard there was going to be another Star Trek movie how excited were you? But then how excited were you when you heard J. J. Abrams was directing, it would be a reboot and then you saw the first trailer!? Then you saw it in the theater and were probably pretty happy a guy like J.J. Abrams came along and revisited the franchise. An even better example is the Batman movies. How many of us wanted to see more Batman movies after the horrible 'Batman and Robin' came out? Not many that is for sure. So imagine now if there truly were never anymore Batman movies made we would be without the great movie 'Batman Begins' and amazing 'The Dark Knight' arguably the best comic book based movie ever!!
With all the sci fi/fantasy and comic book based movies being made in recent years and a lot of them being made well, I am loving going to the movies lately so I hope they make more and the genres keep going strong!
2010 and 2011 are shaping up be great for those genres and how cool does the 'Avatar' trailer look for this year?! I looked ahead at what is coming out in the next two years related to fantasy, sci fi and comic book based movies and made a list of what I am looking forward to most:
More will be announced I'm sure especially for 2011 but I'm looking forward to these:
2009: 2012, Ninja Assassin, Avatar, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
2010: Daybreakers, The Book of Eli, Legion, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Wolfman, Alice in Wonderland, Hot Tub Time Machine, Clash of the Titans, Repo Man, Kick-Ass, Iron Man 2, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jonah Hex, The Last Airbender, Robert Rodriquez's Predators, Inception, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I, Tron Legacy, The Green Hornet, Gullivers Travels.
2011: Underworld 4, Battle: Los Angeles, Sucker Punch, Spider-Man 4, Thor, Green Lantern, Transformers 3, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, The First Avenger: Captain America, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn and the movie I am most looking forward to - The Hobbit! Guillermo del Toro is living in New Zealand to work on The Hobbit and its sequel with a lot of the people who helped make the incredible Lord of the Rings movies including Peter Jackson. With Peter Jackson producing and del Toro's style I feel the two movies will be epic! del Toro spent a year just creating the dragon Smaug! The attention to detail will once again be second to none.
2012 will have the Avengers movie and in December the second Hobbit movie.
So if Hollywood wants to make sequels I say keep em comin. If they misfire well then they can always remake it. Its not like we HAVE to go see it if we know or think its bad. In my opinion a bad sci fi, fantasy or comic book movie is still better than sitting through another 'Saw' movie or a crap movie like 'White Chicks' any day of the week.
