First things first, I wish that I had the chance to watch this movie in the cinemas, Instead it just came straight to blu-ray disc over here in New Zealand, so thank God that I have a decent size television with good surround sound. "Insidious" is a haunted house horror movie that is much better than 90% of the American horror movies that have come out in the last decade, and finally one that is PG-13 and not a stupid and corny gore-fested movie like "Saw". By the way the director for this movie is a dude called (James Wan) who is known for his R-rated toture horror film called "Saw". Uhmmm.
Im not going to give much away about the plot, but I will just go over it so you can get a brief idea of what the hell Insidious is about. A young family move into a new, nice looking house but things start to change very quickly. The baby starts crying all the time, how annoying, and things start to move from one place to another, and we start seeing alot of freaky images of freaky looking things. This is when you know that you are watching a haunted house flick, but thats what you think at first. As the days go by, the family start to get scared when they go to bed at night and they have every right to be scared, because (James Wan) the director makes sure a kids room at night looks like the scariest room in history, and this is when I began biting my nails. There are two young boys in the family, but we seem to really be only focusing on one of the boys. One morning one of the boys doesnt wake up from his sleep, and now this is when the real terror begins.
"Insidious" does what horror films cant do anymore, and that is be genuinely spooky and terrifying with no cheap thrills and just being able to be scary the entire time. The atmosphere and cinematography is great, and the music just sent shivers down my spine everytime. Plus I jumped out of my seat every few minutes and I yelled out FUUUCKKKKKK more times than Eminem does in one of his songs. This is the most suspenseful, terrifying, and just the most fun ive had watching a horror movie in a long, long time.
And no, im not going to say what Insidious means... So I guess you will have to watch it and find out.
RATING- (3.5) out of a 4.
