Though the concept behind this movie is incredibly creative and interesting, the way it was portrayed was good but not great. I know many people are amazed by it, and it certainly has some good scenes; but it doesn't blow me away. The only character development we see is Cobb, which is fine considering he is our protagonist. But, it is just another film where we get to see DiCaprio be serious and frown alot. He has so much talent...but I am getting tired of seeing the wrinkle between his eyebrows in every movie he is in.
Nolan is, to me, a classier version of Bay. He pulls out all the stops with a big bugdet. Though, the concept behind the story is interesting, he then has to throw in as much special effects as possible. Which, for me, is fine I suppose. But I feel it can sometimes take away from the other aspects that can make a movie great. I feel that is what happened for me. The script was okay. The acting was good...in one or two scenes it was even great. But where was the cinemantography? Oh ya...special effects. The score was okay. And so on.
Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. But I am getting a little tired of the obsession with big-budget-CGI-to-the-hilt movies. There is something to be said for low bugdet movies where it relies completely on how good the script, and direction, and acting is because there are no pretty and expensive distractions.
In saying all that, it is definitely worth seeing. Compared to all the other Summer movies, it is pretty amazing.
