The plot follows a selfish prince who gets his punishment by being turned into a hideous beast. He soon kidnaps a innocent old man. The man's daughter, named Belle, goes out to rescue him but is enslaved by the beast. While working in the beast's lair, she falls in love with him and finds the good in him.

"Beauty and the Beast" is declared as a Disney masterpiece by many, but not by me. I really dislike this film. The characters are all messed up. Belle's so-called beautiful looks (I don't think she's pretty!) get in the way of her personality. She is so stupid! We can see where Stephanie Meyer got her inspiration for the Bella Swan character in "Twilight". Bella is much smarter than Belle, BTW. How on Earth can you fall in love with your father's kidnapper and then waste your intellegence finding the good in him?! Belle has her heart where her brain is supposed to be for Pete's sake! The beast was a butthole from the start. He dosen't deserve to get his curse lifted at the end.

The plot and characters are the main issue for me. They annoy me so much. The only "realistic" characters in this were the talking household objects.

However, the music and animation is really well-done. The lyrics to the songs are great and the animation is pretty extravagant.

This film has poor characters and a dissapointing plot. "Beauty and the Beast" has always been one of my least favorite fairytales, along with "The Princess and the Pea". All the RT reviewers and critics are out of their minds! A 92% fresh?! No, no, no, no!

I will never show love for the film and the story. But I must say, that new movie, "Beastly", which is a modern take on the story, looks like "Star Wars" when compared to this!

    Overrated and stupid.

My love for Disney may make me a bit biased, but I disagree with some of your points. However, I really like that you justified your opinion, and I do agree that the plot really isn't for everyone. The songs and animation are truly what make the film, so I can agree with you at least on that point. Nonetheless, another great review :)

This is my all-time favorite animated film, so of course I am inclined to disagree with you. Belle lets her good looks get in the way of her personality? Really? And she never tries to see the good in Beast, by the way. In fact, she doesn't even put up with him. She's the best female character Disney has produced for many reasons. She's a strong lead, has her own ideals, doesn't go for the "prince" or good looking character of the story, stands up for herself in front of the Beast, and doesn't s

Good review, but I very strongly disagree. It's my all time favorite animated film (and one of my favorite films in general). I don't think Belle has a terrible personality at all. I'd even go as far as to say she has one of the best personalities of all the Disney characters, mainly because she's not shallow and can find the good in anyone - even beasts. She's slightly absent minded but she's far from stupid. She's a bookworm for pete's sake!

Are you serious man? This has got to be one of the best (emphasis on best) Disney animated movies ever! The animation is elegant & beautifully done in every way. The songs are one of the best. The plot is a lot better than the original source material (the idea of the girl & beast sitting on the table & the beast asking the girl to marry him every day is just boring). And you got the plot wrong. the beast doesn´t kidnap the old man, he takes him as a prisoner for intruding in his castle. And the

I think your complaint about the characters not being realistic is a bit obtuse considering that it's a fairy tale, and therefore realism is not its main intention. I would recommend you check out the Jean Cocteau version from the 1940s

Beauty and the Beast is one of the best love stories ever told in a movie, in part because it has some of the best songs I've heard in a movie and really amazing visuals and character animations. I've watched it 5 times and I seriously wouldn't mind watching it every day for the next 5 days. I really can't understand why you don't like this harmless and timeless piece of art, and I strongly advise you to watch it again with people who like it and then talk about it.
