This was a disjointed and dull experience. I applaud it for its innovation and boldness but I can't possibly find myself recommending it, especially given the same complaints that you had about it with the story, how it ignores the characters, etc. Great review! 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I wanted to like the movie but I instead found myself loathing it. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

I FINALLY saw it last night - and I loved it! It brought me back to The Rocketeer in a good way. Johnson was able to bring nostalgia to the time period again - unlike the failed nostalgia for his craptastic Wolfman. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Yeah, Wolfman was seriously lacking. I enjoyed Captain America, and it did remind me of the Rocketeer though I think this movie should have been longer w/ a more refined script. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Economically, a longer movie wasn't going to happen. The movie was already over 2 hours. Having a non-franchise movie push 2.5 hours doesn't make sense, since that diminishes Tue number of showtimes it can have. If it was a proven franchise player (like Transformers 3), then the studio (and investors) could justify the risk. Until then, it doesn't make sense. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I get all that, but what I'm saying is that it felt like there was a lot left on the cutting room floor, important stuff. I get that financially they weren't going to be able to have a long run time (it was only over 2 hrs by a couple of minutes, a little longer wouldn't have been out of the cards) but that doesn't change that the script could have done w/ a bit more polishing. |

Great review as always Justin D. I really liked this movie as well. I was apprehensive to see it as well because the last few weeks before the movie arrived in theaters, there were too many extended trailers that I felt were giving too much away. I hate it when a trailer tells too much. That's why the original trailer captured my attention with it's secrecy. But I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was fun and heartfelt. It was not predictable at all. When I thought I knew what was going to happen nex 0 Replies | Report Abuse |

Why do you think Mystic was pointless in this movie? I liked the movie but I do feel it was rushed as well. The beginning was awesome...the revenge storyline led to some great scenes....but it dropped off a bit after that to be picked up towards the end. 1 Replies | Report Abuse Mystique...not Mystic...never been a good speller. :) 1 Replies | Report Abuse She didn't do anything. I think she did something useful once at the end of the movie, but for most of her scenes prior all she did was hit on Beast, hit on Magneto, pout, and be insecure. The only reason they put her in the movie is because she was in the first 3 and the creators figure she had to join at some point. The least they could have done is give her a good fight scene. 2 Replies | Report Abuse I think the point is her insecurity. She is this blue creature who has to hide who she really is, all the time. And even with her best friend, Xavier. I think the entire movie was her trying to fit in, but then Eric tells her that she is beautiful the way she is.....it's like the ugly duckling turning into the swan, but mentally. She finally feels comfortable with herself, and wants to be a part of a group that accepts her for who she is, something to behold, not to be ashamed of. And that sort (I tried to send this in a message to you, but there were errors so it never sent - at least I don't think it did. Feel free to delete this after reading, since it doesn't have to do with your XMen review) Dude - I LOVE your posts. They are always so well written. Even in The Punisher '89 thread (even though you said you'd never seen it), you came off as very articulate. Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. I'm glad that - surrounded by other users who clutter comments with nothing insigh 1 Replies | Report Abuse Thank you good sir. I did get your messages, and I'm glad you like my insight. I love comics and I love movies so this Marvel Madness thing is like the marshmallow on my sundae. 1 Replies | Report Abuse I second that. Your comments and reviews are very interesting and fun to read. 0 Replies | Report Abuse I did not really care for First Class. I didn't HATE it, but I just don't get all of the praise for it. I saw it a week after it came out, so I heard all the gushing about it finally coming back to quality, and it was severely lacking. The Erik/Charles brotherly love felt more like a bromance - and having them go their seperate ways is SUCH a waste and hurts the love that is supposed to carry on for 40+ years. I feel the screen writers took too much for granted that the VIEWER knows they love ea 1 Replies | Report Abuse ch other, so they didn't really feel they needed to show us. Secondly, all the big set pieces and the climactic moments were shown in the previews. So instead of taking my breath away, all I thought was "I remember seeing this on my TV". Merp. Third, is it a reboot or a prequel. They have said both, and the way how they didn't use the members who WERE part of the First Class in the books (Cyclops & Jean - and no, "Bellybutton Cyclops" doesn't count) makes it more of a prequel. For their sake, I 1 Replies | Report Abuse HOPE it was meant to be a prequel - if not, leaving out the actual first members messes this reboot up completely. So those people who bitched about how X3 & Wolverine reconfigured XMen characters to fit those movies can't say shit about it anymore, since First Class did it MORE. 0 Replies | Report Abuse Excellent review. I completely agree with your points, especially with the shallow characterization, even given that the two leads are fantastic. 0 Replies | Report Abuse |
