Cape Fear, even though I do not hardly care for the film, was the first movie I saw with De Niro, and I was so impressed by his acting at my young age that it made me look into movies. Then, once I watched It's a Wonderful Life, I completely thought of movies as more than mindless entertainment, and from then on I needed more than explosions to please me. Die Hard I guess you would say, I gave it a 60, I dont think it is crap but do not want to see it a third time. I just see it as a cheese ball with OK acting lol.

Interesting choices, ive still gotta see It's A Wonderful Life really gotta get to it. I havent seen Die HArd in years and to be honest i don't really need to see it again, it's been copied to much by worser actions so i'm sure it wouldn't hold up anymore

It doesn't, and that was one of my problems. Not only was the story by itself nothing special, nowadays it just does not feel original, it feels cliched, whether it actually was or not. However, that is my lowest rated review, so it seems many disagree, and for the heck of it I even gave myself a thumbs down :D

The thing is it's not Die Hards fault that it cant hold up due to being copied, it's all hollywoods mindless action filmakers that can't think of there own ideas so they borrow from a film they could never be as good as. Lol you gave yourself a thumbs down i mean the film is very orginal from what ive heard atleast but yea i allready know what happens in the whole film and am really not into actions, a few are great but the majority are ridiculous. I gave A Clockwork Orange 40% lol my reviews still there eventhough i saw it again and thought slightly more highly of it but the reviews too funny and legendary for me to delete it but i should probably give it a thumbs down too (it was purposely over the top to stick out ill admit)

Actor or director? Which would you rather be?

Director, hands down. But, I personally want to one day be a professional film critic.

Why do you have the profile pic that you do? What's better, eating a banana during a movie or petting a cat during a movie? :D
on 5/16/11 at 09:48 AM
I should actually get rid of the profile pic, it was just somethin I randomly came across and don't really like. Banana of course, i'm allergic to cats ;)
At least you didn't say eating a cat or petting a banana. One is cruel and the other is creepy.

Favorite villain from a movie?
on 5/16/11 at 10:13 AM
HAL 9000, I suppose any of the folks from Blade Runner if you want to call them villains, and of course Mr. Potter :D

Like the selection of Mr Potter - pity he doesn't really get his comeuppance of what he does puts George through. Saying that, the fact that George doesn't commit suicide and gets through the experience relatively unscathed is comeuppance enough.

I have a few questions, Matt- first film you saw that encouraged you to write about? All time favorite drama film, since it's your preferred genre? What is your favorite scene in a film? And are their any characters you can most identify with the most?

Up. I had been getting more and more into movies, and it touched me emotionally in a way that made me start to want to be a critic. Probably It's a Wonderful Life or Raging Bull. Either the ending of It's a Wonderful Life or the "tears in the rain" scene in Blade Runner. I have nit really thought about it, none that I can think of at the moment.

have you ever wanted to replace yourself with a character in a movie because you felt you could play him better? have you ever wanted to edit a movie so u can write yourself a part in it?
on 5/16/11 at 08:21 PM
Ummm not really to both questions, but I wouldn't mind being Mr. Darcy so I could marry Elizabeth :D

Which do you think is a more important aspect when you critique a screenplay? Story or characters?
on 5/16/11 at 09:15 PM
Characters, which is why Inception was nothing more than a solid film, and that being generous. Whether the story is originally interesting or not, if a film has well developed characters that work well, it should give the viewer an emotional attachment to a film, to the point where they actually care what happens in the story, and it can also make someone want to watch a film again. Titanic is a good example of that, along with Raging Bull and It's a Wonderful Life, but that's just my opinion :)
