Showing 1 - 1 of 1 Movie Lists
NOTE: Sorry for the look of this - it's not done yet- and I haven't figured out the formatting. For me, choosing a ?best? film, even limiting it by genre, is like watching John Cusack in ?High Fidelity? to name a best album, in any category. I?m torn; there are so MANY great ones! I could rank them from best to worst, highest of the best, to lowest, most-watched to least, or, as Cusack decides, autobiographically?as in, where he was when he first heard it and what it means. I could do a series of ?Top 5 All-Time Films? according to various criteria, such as casting, ensemble casting, theme, adaptation of a book, message conveyed and even best costumes?and on and on. One thing I like to do is ask bizarre questions like: Which ten films would you salvage in a fire, or take with you onto a deserted island (which somehow had a DVD player)? Or, is a film really ?great? if you love it but can only watch it once because it?s too disturbing, like ?Sleepers?? If I can watch ?My Cousin Vinny? EVERY time it comes on TV and enjoy it each time, does that make it great (yes)? OR, How come I claim to love some films, but don?t even own a copy and haven?t watched them in years, like ?The Lion in Winter? or ?Goodfellas?? Then there are confessions: I only think ?The Big Chill? is ?great? because it?s about my g-g-generation, don?t I? Or, can ONE person I hate (Christian Bale!) ruin an otherwise great film (yes?usually, he can. Thank GOD he wasn?t in ?The Ciderhouse Rules? or ?Identity?, for instance!). Here?s my VERY incomplete list, in no order whatsoever, just a result of a 2-3-day brainstorm idea. High Fidelity, since I said it already.
