The first-rate performances, beautiful cinematography, and slick directing and editing kept me entertained all throughout it's two and a half hour running time.
Joaquin Pheonix was amazing, simply put. He nails every scene he's in and for not one second did I believe he was just acting. He IS Freddy, and you really feel bad for the poor guy. He clearly has some mental health issues, but he's looking for help in the wrong place. Or maybe perhaps it's because he doesn't want to get better.
I never got bored watching it, and when it reached the point where I knew it was going to end, I didn't want it to end. It's rare a movie ever has that effect on me, the only other time I recall not wanting a movie to end was the great Blue Velvet from 1986.
This isn't a movie for everyone. There,s a surprising amount of full frontal female nudity in some scenes, and there might be some words that some prudists might take offense to. But if your a fan of these types of movies than I think you'll be right at home with this one. If you like the trailer you'll like the movie.
Instant Oscar contender.
