An intense heartfelt cop film. As i watched this movie my interest in it kept growing and growing to the point that i had to see what would happen. The chemistry between Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena is incredible and its what makes this movie from good to perfection. As you learn about this LAPD cops and their personal lives the more you feel for these characters and begin to really enjoy the film. The interactions between the main characters aren't the only thing that is great but the cartels that are the main villain are fantastic. You really believe that these actors are real gang members by the way they talk and act, End of Watch doesn't make them over the top which a lot of movies with similar antagonist tend to do. The film is shot in a kind of documentary style with Jake Gyllenhaals character recording for a class hes taking. In saying that I noticed that this film kinda switches from recording to having shots like a normal drama. At first this kinda bothered me but as I got more into the movie and strangely this began happening more I began to like it. I give props to David Ayer the director for that because I feel that if the whole movie was that type of found footage style it would begin to bug me. Overall I think most people wont really notice it and if they do they wont mind.
