I love Darren Aronofsky so naturally it was a pleasure for me to watch this movie. But it's also just an insanely well-made movie from top to bottom. Basically no budget but maximum efficiency. Perfect acting and directing, beautiful dance sequences and cinematography, as well as a seductive horror aspect. It's an awesome cinematic experience, everything you could want in a movie from thrills to sex to drugs to random gore and excruciatingly uncomfortable sequences of nightmares and ultimate peeves come-to-life. Great writing, relatable characters, and plenty of depth for all roles. It's over-the-top and pretentious but it's allowed to be because it's a work of art. Not in the sense that it's truly unique and original, but in mainly because it succeeds on all levels and that makes up for it's flaws. It's flaws being the that it is derivative and sometimes seems kind of pointless. But it's awesome, I love it. I met the Aronofsky at a directors panel at the SBIFF - he was funny and told us all about making Black Swan and it was really interesting the behind-the-scenes process from his mouth. He stuck around to shake hands of fans and sign autographs. You can see him on youtube at the SBIFF directors panel. Nice guy :P
